Lufthansa jet narrowly avoids collision at JFK

They're on the liveatc.net forums (the unofficial scanner recordings... No idea on the official tapes).

Cancel takeoff plans, lol.

"But sir, I've had these plans for weeks now!"

Yeah . . . I kinda cringed when I heard that as well. But I'll tell this, one does have a tendency to have a brain fart when you see a suddenly imminent situation and you only have seconds to respond.

A few years ago I cleared a Citation for takeoff. I noticed down field a NASA T-38 appeared to be approaching the runway far too fast for comfort. I pointed to the T-38 and asked the trainee working Ground Control, "He is holding short, right?" Well, you guessed it. The trainee froze harder than a breaded fish stick. Suddenly, I couldn't recall the call sign of the Citation on the runway and I didn't have time to look down at the scratchpad, so I keyed up and said, "Citation on departure roll Runway 26 Left, cancel takeoff clearance. Unauthorized traffic crossing down field."

It wasn't pretty, but it worked. The Citation aborted well short of the T-38, and the pilot thanked me for the quick call. But I was mentally berating myself for quite a while after that for having call-sign brain lock. Ticked me off no end.

Nah, I think he actually says "Cancel takeoff clearance," just a bad transcription. Where's Kit Darby when you need him?

As for your situation, sounds like you did a good job to me. "Citation on the roll" doesn't leave much room for doubt.

They really need to justify having parrall runways. One runway for landing and one for Takeoff and that their taxiways do not cross each other. Sharing runways, we are bound to see another Caranary Island accident again. Hopefully not and they always stay alert and not complacent. You Think?
From the comment section. :chair:

Just when I think we're going to regain American Greatness, I read the comments section of a news report and I keep on plugging away at "Rosetta Stone: Mandarin"

Its disgusting reading the comments section.

Yeah, this. That's a few minutes of my life I won't get back.

And where is "caranary" island located again? I seem to have forgotten.

CLIFS: airplane A aborts takeoff after airplane B makes wrong turn on taxi way yet holds short of the active. THE END.

OK, I've been reading a while but haven't gotten around to posting. However I do want to point out some of the comments are actually quite good. For example, from CNN comments: "People should avoid eating food on Lufthansa for a while due to bacteria found in German agricultural products."

Isn't that what this is all really about anyways?
