“Long sleeve season”

This. Everyone one I’ve seen has been a top notch, first class nozzle. Wearing long sleeves gives the rest of us plenty of warning.
I... never got the stigma of long sleeve shirt thing. I’ve heard it to the point where it’s more of a pilot meme at this point. I’ll out myself, I even had a captain say “at first I thought you were going to be one of THOSE guys when I saw the long sleeves.”

Is this long sleeve thing in general? Or just in winter?

“Well... autopilot on. Pretty sure I can hold 10 degrees of pitch ok for the next 80 miles anyway.”

I know right? Said some ab initio pilots. Then one dark day/night the AP clicks off and said pilot then proceeds to hand fly the airplane at FL340 like he would at sea level - takeoff climb: pulls it straight back to 10-15 degrees pitch up in the attitude indicator. Because that pitch is all they ever flew.

I handful through 18k feet, barring no abnormality/emergency/failure, or if FO looks like he/she overloaded. Occasionally I may go higher or less, it all depends on various factors (time of day, duty at that time, fatigue, etc).

Good for you. Occasionally I do, but I don’t feel like being able to babysit a perfectly trimmed out airplane equates to ability to not crash the airplane when the autopilot stops working.

Got real busy departing CLT today and what is my FO doing? Hand-flying to cruise. We’ve got dings and lights going off and I’m just trying to talk on the radio while figure out wtf is going on and he’s just over there flying in his little bubble world. Seemingly oblivious. I think I may have gotten a, “do you need help with that?”... But not once did he ask for or turn the autopilot on

As far as long sleeves go, I wear them every day at work. I have my arms tattooed so obviously I wear them for that reason. But I don’t even care so much who sees or knows I have tattoos as I care about long-term affects of sun exposure to my skin. I even wear long sleeve upf50 undershirts.
