Logging Hours

I would say document the time in a separate way. Separate logbook. Keep records that show you flying like a billing statements to the students. Take pics of the plane that you are flying. Anything that will help if you were to interview at a US flight school and have to explain yourself. I would have a story about "well, I did all this flying, but I did it outside the US, so I documented in a different logbook" ect. Of course, the more you document, the more the case against you for not having a work visa, so there's that. But if I needed a CFI and you came to me with a good story and documentation I'd be impressed you were conservative and didn't just log it as US, FAA legal time. If you're going to be doing this a long time, might be worth it to figure out a way to get "FAA legal".

And I’m guessing that whether or not he has a visa to work there (see his “illegal” quote) does not come into consideration for logging time(?).

Side Info: Southeast Asia
The countries of Southeast Asia are Brunei, Cambodia, East Timor, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam.

There are tons of illegal immigrants (overstayers) in Cambodia, Vietnam, Thailand, Malaysia & etc.

You will be surprised there are Americans and Europeans illegal staying and working in these countries for many years! The key word is "corruption".

I have been legally flying but working illegally.

Even though I am a CFI, I still have some dumb questions about logging PIC time...

For a ASEL rated pilot, and BFR completed on October 10, 2025.
Can the pilot log as PIC on any ASEL aircraft?

Can the pilot log as PIC on any AMEL (propeller) aircraft even though the last flight on ME airplane was >5 years ago?
