live at an airport community

I am thinking about buying some property to build a vacation house and i am thinking about an airport community, preferably somewhere in the CO, AZ, CA, NC, VA area due to family locations.
Anyone have any good recommendations?
It would be nice if it is close to a lake or mountain as well, CO or NC would be first choice.

Stellar (P19) in Chandler is great. You will not want to be here from May until October, though. I have a bunch of friends who live there that I could put you in touch with. We have also done some of the real estate deals there.

Stellar is ok if you like living in the middle of the busy town. Carefree, Hangar Haciendas, and Pegasus are good if you want to live outside the busy city.

Pegasus has a lot of open lots, is next to a dairy, and the HoA is BRUTAL. Carefree is hoity toity, and incredibly exclusive. The result is that there is not much of a "community". Just a bunch of high priced hangars and very restrictive visitor regulations.

The "busy-ness" of Stellar can be a downside, but it is local to great restaurants, and Spring Training, and other fun things. The community feel at Stellar is 2nd to none from what I have experienced. BBQ's, sitting out by the runway together, doing group flights to SoCal, or Sedona....

What's Hanger Hacienda?

Hangar Haciendas is an airpark down in Laveen. Surprised you don't know it. 27th Ave south of Dobbins.

Stellar has some dumb restrictions, which were a pain in the butt when I was flying with a cargo company out of there back in the day.

La Cholla isn't bad either.

I know you didn't mention Nevada but I have flown through here often, I can't imagine they are getting the prices they ask on the website. It is a nice area and is a short drive (about 30 mins) to Reno, Lake Tahoe and surrounding mountains. I haven't been out there in a while but figured you may not have thought of it.

Ahem, Carefree? I think you mean Sky Ranch at Carefree. See...hoity toity.

I flew in there quite a few times as a kid. It's all doctors and other affluent people that like to sit around and talk about their airplanes rather than fly them. There was a guy I met up there that had a Pitts S2B. I asked him if it was fun to fly. He answered, "I don't know. I don't fly it. I just think it's cool looking."

I remember when it was still a public-use airport, before it went private.

When I lived in NC, I thought 14a was cool. Lake Norman Airpark.

Heading out to Hacienda, I hope, before the end of the week to look around and see if anyone is out and about. Thanks for the tip. ;)

I'm going to have to second this. My dad lives on lake norman. He keeps telling me to buy the airpark, which is up for sale. I keep telling him he needs to back me a loan for that. Beautiful area, as you probably know, near Charlotte and lots to do.
Right on man.
