Line Service Pay

update- Got an offer from FedEx as a cargo handler at KDEN, part time at $12.60/hr (25 hrs +/-). Somewhere south of $300/week after taxes. Trouble is it'll cost me $120/week for gasoline- provided gas prices stay where they are.

FedEx is a great company to work for. I worked for ground loading trucks part time with full benefits. The hours sucked but you can't beat $40 a month for health/dental/vision insurance!

I'm not trying to be rude but what is your motivation for wanting a job like that? I can understand why someone might go for a job like this with a passenger airline because of flight benefits, because that's how I got started. But a $550 paycheck and no free flying? Why?

I cannot answer for him, but at the end of the pay period would you rather have $600 or be looking for a job?

I received an offer to run the line service at our local airport for $15 / hour with full benefits. (Local Government Position).

I've worked line service at 3 different FBOs around Dallas-Fort Worth. The first one started me at $9/hr and I was only offered a raise to $11 when I said I was going to quit (I quit anyway). The second place started me at $11 and I was told there was no possibility of ever getting a raise (I didn't stay there long). The place I work now started me at $13/hr and in only 9 months I was up to $18.50. I'm not gonna name names because overall this isn't a great company to work for, but they pay a lot better than most FBOs.

^^^ this. Ultimately, I determined that after taxes & paying for gas to get to & from work, I wouldn't even be able to buy groceries with what was left

not to extend the conversation, but for some reason, I can only post to this board with firefox. Internet Explorer seems to make me read-only here

I made $10/hr. 7 years ago as a part time line guy in the DFW area. I would say around $15+/hr should be the going rate these days.

Job opening near me for line service is part-time offering only $8.50 an hour. That's crazy. My current company starts sales associates out who are in high school at $8.50 an hour. Guess when people say that airlines (especially regionals) use flight bennies at airlines to try and allow them to significantly underpay workers, they weren't kidding!
