That is fantastic. I would LOVE to hear how you have not devalued our profession. Where does your expertise lay that allows you to judge whether 50k is low or high for the given job? Flying for American you start at 38k, are those pilots devaluing the profession to an absolutely absurd level?

in all seriousness, if you were to go ask joe public, you know... like your friends who arent in aviation (if you have any)... most ALL of them would suggest that 60k-70k is a fair entry level wage for an airline pilot.
working for less than what joe public thinks is fair... thats devaluing your profession.
my SO works for a media company in silicon valley if you must know. she makes the low end of what her contemporaries make.

I have done my part by refusing to fly for wages which i feel insult the profession.
I will gladly sit on my ATP and refuse all offers of employment until I think they are respecting the worth and effort I have put into the career. What are YOU doing to promote professional wages for the industry?
You can be a martyr all you want, being proud and armchair quarterbacking the industry doesn't pay my mortgage. I make above the high category on propilot for the aircraft I fly, I have a schedule and I work for a company that plays by the rules 100% which is unheard of in 135 on demand charter. So I took a job that values the profession, values his/her employees. That doesn't mean I didn't do crap jobs to get where I am today. It is one thing to build a fantastic resume, and demand proper compensation, that is called being a professional. But you can't say you didn't take crap jobs to build hours, I don't fault anyone in this industry right now for doing so. What I have a problem with, is people defending it. 50k to fly a chieftain is not bad, simple as that.
I sat in the crew lounge yesterday with 2 super weird, older pilots from Mach 1 which is a bottom feeding, garbage 135 operator. These guys tried to justify to me why they make 45k to be a CA on a Citation XL. That I will not stand for, and told them so. It is one thing to build time, know you're taking it up the exhaust pipe to further your career, it is a whole other thing to be in this industry for decades, and try to justify why a company would treat you like crap, and pay you crap.

Don't they ask you to either show up with a type or pay for training too? If it's the same place I'm thinking of out of Chino, I talked to them about 2 years ago. After a 15 minute phone conversation, I hung the phone up laughing at the guy.
