Life at Compass

This is probably a basic question to all of you with any experience, but if anyone has times to answer a couple questions about scheduling for a guy who is new to the line, it would be greatly appreciated!

I just finished IOE and received my schedule for September. I have a few reserve assignments, and I have two questions:

1. on FLICA most of the reserve assignments show 00:01 to 24:00. What does that mean? Am I on a short call that whole period?
2. Can I pick up an open time trip during reserve instead of staying on reserve?

You will be on short call, and they will be calling you to let you know what RAP you will be assigned. If you are a commuter and they don't assign a RAP, I would call them a couple days ahead so you can plan accordingly.

You cannot pick up a trip inside of your reserve duty, only on your off days, as long as it does not affect part 117 rules for your reserve. If there's a trip you want in open time (not tradeboard, denoted by that green circle on flica) you can email them and let them know you want it. Usually they will add a note in there but in my experience you really have little say in what trips you get out of open time.

To further clarify open time, the trips in there that do not have that green "T/B" next to the pairing ID are straight open trips. They currently have no crew assigned to them. Ones with the T/B green dot means that someone is assigned that trip and responsible for it, unless someone wants to pick it up on their off days. You can see more detail on tradeboard trips by clicking the tradeboard link on the left hand side of flica.
