I interviewed for a flying job two months ago ... I didn't have a necessary endorsement to fly for the company. In an e-mail I received after the interview from the chief pilot (who I interviewed with), he told me to "get that endorsement and we'll go from there." $1000+ later (to get the endorsement), two e-mails and a US Mail letter to tell him I got it, I've heard nothing back. I understand flying positions are competitive but when you tell an applicant go spend quite a bit of money on an endorsement that he would otherwise not consider adding, I feel like I at least deserve a response. I haven't given up yet ... two months isn't that long ... but it's soon approaching the point where I may have to read the handwriting on the wall and accept that I lost big time here! Any other thoughts?

Do you have a phone number for him? I would either call him directly or physically go to his office and see him, with the endorsement in hand.

I hate to say it, but "Welcome to Aviation"... This industry is full of empty promises such as:

"Get that Multi-Engine rating done and I'll see what I can do about getting you hired"

"When you get done with your training, give me a call and I'll hire you!"

and everyone's favorite...

"When you get another 500 hours, call me and you'll have a job!"

99.9% of these never materialize... The reason for these? This is a fairly small industry, and nobody wants to step on anyones toes, so instead of being honest and saying "Kid, you don't have a rats chance of me hiring you in the foreseeable future" they make one of those lame promises, similar to the above, counting on the fact that most people never follow up os so they will never have to answer to it...

That statement is definitely short of a commitment. It may just be an expensive lesson.

Clearly he's not responding because the job is filled.

I would still go see him, in person.

Tell him that he said to "Come see him", so that's why you're there! It shows initiative, and even if the job is filled, lets him know that he should either learn to say things differently, or he'll keep you in mind if it comes open again.
