Latest Delta Rumors

From what I can tell, nearly

Seems the 330s will be additional airframes. I'd guess the 321's will be mostly additional and partly replacement...from what we know 10 older 75's are being parked. There has been talk that some older 320's will go to pasture but nothing has been announced. Past precedent would lead one to believe that announced retirements will be seen through. Possibly delayed but ultimately realized. Long live the diesel 9!

The 739 and the A321 are not suitable 757 replacements. They're just a "fly more people" airplane at the cost of range.

Uggghhhh... I see 321's here in PHX take off and their climb gradient seems almost nil.

A330 vs. 787? Why does DL prefer the 330?

Why no 350 orders?

Well, we're replacing some of the older 757's with 737-900's which blows as the -900 doesn't pay what the 757/767 does. But they're picking up A321's as "growth " airplanes so it's good TODAY, but like Dickson said in another statement, if the economy tanks, they'll end up replacing present aircraft with the A321.

So basically, the stage is set for the -900's, on an existing order to replace some 757's...Bad... But the additional airframes are growth...TODAY.

But who knows.

Mildly confusing, but okaaaay!

I've read on the interweb the last day or two that DAL is trying to get Airbus to sign off on a life extension of their older A320's? Anyone think that will happen or not? I would think Delta would be jumping up and down to fly the wheels off those planes.

We've already returned some leased 757s and there are more than a handful sitting in the desert already waiting to either be sold or scrapped.

My personal unsubstantiated opinion is that the 75's, outside of the previously announced retirees, will stick around quite awhile. Look at our fleet strategy as a whole. I'm a little more bullish on the future of the 75s than @Derg I think and I will concede that it will get ugly if the economy tanks but I just feel that old airplanes are a major part of the fleet strategy despite new orders. I guess I can't blame them for wanting fleet flexibility.

Do all 73's pay the same?

I will let the Submarine Commanders speak more to this one, but their heartburn isn't so much the 737 rates. It is the fact that they are parking the 757-200s, replacing them with 737-900s, and that the 737-900s pay less than the 757-200s. At my place 737-800s/900s, A320/A321s, and 757-200s pay the same with our pay banding system.

HUGE mistake by DALPA to NOT have the 737-800s/900s and 757-200s pay the same.

Agree 100%. Seems to me that mistake only serves to hasten the 75 retirement schedule.

Understood. Yeah that's kinda what I was getting at since the seat difference between the two is negligible. I honestly have never had the chance to look at the contracts as an outsider looking to break into 121 I should probably do that.

Or even more than that, -90 carries more people but pays less than the 319 and the 737-800.
