Lasers

Heck last time I reported a laser they had me on the phone with the local law enforcement guys filling out a 5 page questionnaire.

It happens nightly in MIA. I have a good idea of the neighborhood it's happening in. I plan on getting in my car and driving through that neighborhood at night during one of my days off.

When I used to fly blimps, MIA was the worst area for getting lased. Plus, in a blimp you're an easy target....and can't get away very quickly.

Are there any practical devices that can be worn to degrade the affect of lasers without otherwise impairing the pilot's vision?

My last trip into Mexico in the Metro I got lazed going into Saltillo. Turned off all the lights, landed, parked. Our handler asked me several things about the area it came from. When we departed a bit later there were a LOT of red and blue lights coming from that neighborhood.

I imagine the punishments are a bit more severe in Mexico.

New gig? You out of FL entirely now?
Yeah, I couldn't take it anymore and resigned about two years ago. Didn't have a job at the time but I knew unemployment was better than working for those guys. Found a great job and am much, much happier.

Wow, congrats man!! Sorry it took me so long to realize. I remember you were thinking of bailing, just didn't know it happened already.

I guess if you consider wearing an HGU-56 practical you could buy a 2 or 3 notch laser visor for protection.

If I was still in a 58 I'd consider "shooting back" with my laser and blinding them.. Just kidding of course.
