KCM

I appreciate the service.

If it were up to me it would be ALPA only but then it wouldn't have gotten implemented which wouldn't be good. So if I was in an ALPA leadership position about this project, I would probably have handled it the same way. But, I wouldn't be happy about it.

Correct my if I'm wrong guys, but I don't really see an issue with SkyWest for example being able to use KCM. Don't they have to pay for it just like the rest of us? We all might not see it in our checks at the ALPA shops, but is it not a paid service? Shoot, even JO over at Mesa makes his guys pay for it out of pocket if they want to use it. It's like a credit union opening up to the public. It was exclusive maybe early on or "paved" by a group of people, but if you're willing to pay the dues or cost, why not use it?
The Company pays the bill for our three-thousand-some-odd pilots and "I forget" flight attendants.

As it turns out, it is good for the Company (better reliability!) and good for the worker bees.

That's kind of what I figured. I fail to see how you guys are "freeloaders"? Oh well I think that's like beating a dead horse so I won't even bring it up...

What @Seggy meant was that the program was started due to ALPA pushing for it. There was a lot of time and money (ALPA money) spent on getting the TSA, A4A (well, I think it was the ATA back then) and DHS on board. Skywest pilots didn't contribute any money to that cause where as ALPA pilots spent 1.90% of their paycheck towards getting it working.

I think the laptops are ALPA paid for. Also the political capital ALPA had to use costs money.

The touchy feely approach really hasn't worked well recently.

That's not touchy feely. That's common decency.

If you think being decent doesn't work, why do you think being a jerk will? Most pilots are the type of guys that will do the opposite of what a jerk says just out of pure spite. I am at least. Thug tactics get the equal and opposite reaction from me.

That's an ALPA problem not a SkyWest problem.

The overall question, WHY JOIN ALPA?

If there isn't a benefit to joining, or enough of a benefit, that is an ALPA issue.

There are some pretty horribly paid ALPA pilots and some non-union pilots that make the same or more than the top ALPA carriers in their bracket.

If all ALPA carriers were paid 25% more and enjoyed great job stability (hahaha..ha.) you'd see more of a push to join internally.

These aren't thug tactics.

That's where you're not 100% correct. My 2% helped pay for the program. And we were one of the testing airlines for it. Then I left and I became a freeloader. So I did contribute money to the cause, and am now using it as a freeloader. :)

I don't think you know what a thug tactic is.

He didn't threaten or cause bodily injury to anyone. I am even going to go out on a limb and say he didn't cause emotional distress either. Where is the thug tactic?

You, too, can even be less of a "freeloader," as a formerly ALPA-represented pilot. ('Stache Monthly is good reading.)

Pseudo freeloader? :)

Easy cheap joke.

Maybe more like "white collar thug tactics".
