KCM since the no uniform change

Talking to the KCM guys in SAN this afternoon (while in uniform), I asked what would happen if I was in normal clothes and got selected for random screening with my big kid sized liquids? They said that it wouldn't matter as I would still be considered to be using KCM and they would just either swab my hands or search the bag and I'd be on my way...probably just depends on who is working that day

I've been hearing that a few TSA checkpoints are throwing temper tantrums about the new policy and are randomly screening more than a necessary amount of pilots both in and out of uniform as a result. I, however, am only hearing this as I am on days off [:bounce:] but I was curious as to if there is any truth to this and if it is a localized thing or system wide.

Charlotte was doing that two days ago. 5 agents in the room and 1 out of every 4 was going to the line. Garbage. It's like they were looking for someone in particular.

Let me get this straight. Please correct me if I'm wrong at any point. I do welcome that.

We finally have KCM and even kept it after a few "incidents".

If you wear your uniform, nothing has really changed. If you're "randomly" selected for additional screening, you are able to use the "Known Traveler" line and enjoy those benefits PLUS possessing non size-compliant liquids.

If you do not wear your uniform, you screen as a regular passenger, which incurs some risk and judgement because the standard liquids allowance applies the unwashed masses endure.

…and some pilots are grumpy...

Eh....my company issued ID should be plenty to avoid being screened as a 'regular passenger.' If I'm using KCM and get pulled for 'random' screening, I still should not be held to the same standards as a regular passenger. The uniform makes ZERO difference. The ID does, however. As long as I don't have a loaded gun or bomb in my bag, it shouldn't matter what I have in there.

Just my $.02

If I ran the TSA, I would put you through additional screening regardless.

It's the beard!

Meh. I think I'll just continue going through Pre Check as a passenger. It takes less time anyway and I don't have to deal with any of this BS. I'm still not going to bother putting my uniform on. Can't stand commuting in the thing.

IMO, PreCheck should be the standard order of things if you have a badge that says "CREW." Again, it is a rational, risk-based approach to security. The clothing I am wearing does NOT change the fact that I'm cleared to access the flight deck (etc., etc., etc.).

Ted Kaczynski in training! Sadly, I must now wait until my next extended leave period before I can put my final plan into motion. Until then, the beard shall remain dormant. :ooh::eek2:
