KCM since the no uniform change

I've been hearing that a few TSA checkpoints are throwing temper tantrums about the new policy and are randomly screening more than a necessary amount of pilots both in and out of uniform as a result. I, however, am only hearing this as I am on days off [:bounce:] but I was curious as to if there is any truth to this and if it is a localized thing or system wide.
 
Probably just some TSA people that didn't read a memo and are getting schooled by crew members.
 
I have had nothing but nice TSA agents the last week that, while I was in uniform, were super excited to tell me about the new changes and were happy that they didn't have to play uniform police.
 
Did it literally 20 min ago without any problems. Have a friend who did it yesterday without additional screening as well. In which airport (s) is the TSA butthurt about this?

Especially fun when debating someone who is rather emotional on politics. "Well that's interesting. That's not really how I see it"

Tuesday this week. Show up to the KCM checkpoint with crew (4 total).

Currently using the checkpoint is female in civilian clothes.

Two FAs from my crew get through.

I am next and am randomly selected to go through full security.

Gee...thanks. I am the one going to work and the civilian gets on through, awesome.

We were delayed because of it and I submitted an appropriate company form due to the delay.

If that's how it is gonna be, or at least appear to be, I won't be a huge fan. Only one incident so far, so I'll hold off on going full rage - but my crew was not thrilled and was a bit miffed by the whole incident.

And do you think I went to the front of the line at real security? Nope.

Not sure I understand. You were in uniform, and got randomly screened? You're mad because the civilian didn't get randomly screened?

What am I missing here? I'm sure you've been randomly screened before, it's how the system works.

Honestly, I have a huge problem being treated like a regular passenger and that's on a philosophical level. I understand some don't share my philosophy on that, and that's fine. So, there you go. KCM is a significant improvement. And mad? Nah, just found it amazingly comical and ironic. And, ultimately, impacted my company on a financial level - which isn't looked upon too favorably.

However, I find a great amount of irony of being delayed operating a flight on the exact day the TSA has decided to allow civilian dressed crewmembers skip through KCM while a uniformed crewmember is given the random screening. It's cool, it's a numbers game and my number hit. As I said, won't go full rage mode but I found a great amount of irony in the situation. You weren't there so I am sure you can't quite see it.

And, I suppose, now that I think about it, no I haven't been randomly selected through KCM before. Guess it was my lucky day. Hence the irony.

Pure numbers game. But, there should be an option so that crews in uniform are at a lower percentage of being randomly screened.

All sorts of SSI issues here I am sure, but yeah - Im pretty damn sketchy. Lemme tell you! Lord knows if I wasn't I wouldn't be trusted in my other career.
 
I dont think its classified info on how the TSA selects the random screening, however I don't feel like sharing it on a public form. If you ask, i am sure they will tell you. Its the same no. throughout the system I believe. If they are only going to randomly select crewmemebers who are out of uniform, why have this privilege at all? A possible reason you happened to be selected this time was because, now there are a lot more people going through KCM daily, so that magic number comes up more often. I'v been selected once or twice before, it isn't that bad, they rush you through the pre-check line, you leave your shoes on and don't have to take anything out of your bag. You also get to go through the regular metal detector and not the body scanner. But then again, i guess that can change depending on which airport you go through.

Also, if you pushed late solely because of the TSA, you were really cutting it close

Cutting it close as in showing up 10 mins before duty in time?

I know you weren't there and all, but...nah, you're making a big assumption. Additionally, with an overcoat the only thing giving it away I was crew was a lanyard and my extra luggage that wasn't spotted until about number 7 from going through the regular line...at which point I was brought over to Pre Check, which oddly enough I am eligible to use when in civilian clothes thanks to another career affiliation.

Since you brought it up, I finally arrived to the aircraft at D-15. Which, well, I wasn't around to delay boarding but the Ca felt it prudent enough to do just that considering that now he didn't know when, or if, his FO would arrive at the aircraft.

But hey, otherwise - I got it!

KCM is great, the random screening is our compromise. I'm willing to deal with that.

Surely you've seen the lines at some of our country's busiest airports. Right? I didn't keep a log of my time in and time out, but yeah, I would wager to say the standing in line was in excess of 20 mins but no more than 30.

KCM at Boston, for us at least, is RIGHT at our gate versus security that's near the opposite end of the terminal.
