KCM International

Anyone seen this yet? My question is how would they know if I'm traveling international?

Well, sometimes they form a gauntlet in the jetway and start inspecting boarding passes and seat request cards. When pads go through security, the checker marks the BP. When you hand them one that hasn't been marked, they are gonna ask which lane you went through and at what time and then go pull the video feed.

When they see you went through KCM instead, they'll use that as one more data point to shut the whole thing down, and then we'll be forced to hunt you down for screwing it up for everyone else!

Or, you can just comply with the rules.

So what you are saying is to always carry a sharpie???

So, they're drawing on cell phones now too? Who prints an actual boarding pass these days?

Flaw in that theory, crews don't need paper ticket to go through security. The would have to physically pull tapes or check the KCM logs to see how you transitioned into the sterile area.

Another questions is what if the crew member non-rev's domestically then takes an international flight having never left the sterile area? Are the supposed to go out and come back in. E.g. ATL DTW then ATL LHR..

just more smoke and mirrors and feel good measures and bowing to the will of ICAO....

What about nonrevs who get a boarding pass printed at the gate? Generally speaking I don't keep seat request cards after I get a boarding pass and it has yet to be an issue. What about boarding passes on electronic devices? Or what about a seat change at the gate? I've been the last one down the jetway with a handwritten seat assignment on scrap paper that the gate agent handed to me as he/she closed out the flight. Last minute change in destination? I get following the rules, but it seems to me yet again all we have is more security theater and more wasting of time on crew members.

Why not just keep randomly screening people? That seems to be working. Making up unenforceable, BS rules that the criminals aren't going to follow anyway is stupid.

"Imma carry 50 pounds of cocaine through KCM today...Wait. Awww damn they changed the rules and said I can't go international with KCM anymore. Shucks. Guess I'll just go home."

Y'all make good points. I'm just passing on what i had a TSA neighbor tell me when I asked him how they would know.

FWIW, I don't really care one way or another if you choose to comply or not. That said, if KCM gets shut down because of guys not following the rules, I will form a vigilante group to hunt down and punish, with extreme prejudice, any and all scofflaws! Anyone wanna volunteer to join?

Tar and feathering would be a good starting point.

We used to have people get tagged in ATL when they would get off the bus on C and not exit to go be screened before nonreving, so don't think the TSA is above tracking you.

Look...this stuff is stupid and should be changed. But in the meantime, talk to your representatives and follow the rules. It's not worth the risk given the level of suck that could result if you get busted.

Agreed, however in certain places this is another issue completely. In Seattle, there's nothing random about it. My bags have gotten searched 100% of the time I've gone through KCM for the last 6 months. And it's not just me getting pulled out of line, they have someone waiting there every day. I have no problem at all with getting randomly selected to go through screening but if there are any more than about 3 people going through at once (happens all the time) it really backs things up and makes it such that KCM isn't really saving any time.

I don't mind that. Mine was searched today in ORD. For me it's not really about time though, but more getting all my crap out, finding my laptop, etc. At least with a random search you just hand them your crap and stand back.

I was randomed 4x in row at LGA last month. The TSA guy actually laughed at the 4th one as he remembered me. He told me I need to stop being number x through the checkpoint.

Another joke with kcm. If you get randomed out of uniform and they have to run you through normal screening you lose your liquids but not if in uniform or if they are able to do a private screening.

I think KCM should be for flight crew. Not for cabin crew. Most of the problems I've witnessed are always with the cabin crew.

This is a tough thing. @Seggy will argue that ALPA paid for the development and he has a good point. However at this point I don't really care if they are using it. BUT, if a flight attendant is the one to screw it up and they want to shut it down, I hope ALPA will fight for it just being us again.
