Just thought to share my flight bag

I was taking pics of my flightbag contents tonight so here is what I have keep in mind i'm a student pilot. I think I have everything a VFR pilot needs and then some.

Hope you don't take all of those on your flights! All I carry is my headset and my licenses in my back pockets.
 
That's a pretty cool idea for a thread. I'll go get a shot of my flight bag and post it later tonight. Unfortunately, camera phone only at this point.
 
I leave a Los Angeles TAC and Sectional chart in the plane (along with my headset and GPS) so I only need to show up with the green card and medical in my wallet.

- kneeboard abbreviated checklists
- velcro hand-straps for pens
- Sharpie marker....for marking up bombs! (left over from my Afghanistan deployment)

Not sure I understand the question. That's my callsign, and has nothing to do with the squadron I'm assigned. It's a name I was given by my fellow pilots, and in my community that replaces any name that is on your birth certificate.

Yep I'm right there with ya, Im flying the 152 tommorow before work, I spend money right before making money, Makes me feel better about it. Plus around here you can get a 152 wayyy cheaper than a 172, must be for you rich folks! Just kidding!
 
After seeing hacker15e I feel like I'm over packed but as a student pilot I just want to be ready for anything the only thing left on my list to get is a small survival and first aid kit.
 
The coolest part of being an AF flyer. See where he unloaded his flight bag? Yeah, baby...the bar! Gotta have a good place to debrief, right? :)

I don't know what's not to understand. It was a straight-forward question. But that was pretty much the answer that I was looking for, so thanks.
 
I think the reason it was not understood is because sometimes a squadron has a nickname itself such as Viking or Vigilante or Death Rattlers etc. His name "hacker" is a personal callsign that each pilot gets from their brothers.

It is typically predicated off of something stupid they did and will stick with them until long after they are gone.

My opinion and my opinion only but, you need to loose some items. I would get rid of three of the flashlights, battery holder, radio, Airmap, and most importantly the kneeboard. Don't be "that guy". You start bringing that much stuff you might have to start figuring it into the W&B. :D
 
I've been trying various combinations of things to figure out what to carry, and I've determined that it depends on the flight.

If I'm doing just a local flight to go practice landings and stuff, I'll take my headset, small kneeboard (which has all my checklists and pockets for license/medical, pens, small e6b - it's the fighter-pilot style) AFD, sectional, and, if there's one for the area I'm in, a TAC chart. At night, I add flashlights - I use a headlamp which is handy.

For XC flights, I'm usually carrying a second kneeboard. Reason being that I still like having my checklists handy, but I'm left-handed and prefer to have an easy way to write on my navlog (left knee) and still keep my sectional out to trace what I'm doing on the clipboard piece. I have a GPS which I'm still learning to use, but that's yoke-mounted, and the XM Wx receiver goes under the seat.

I'm still that dork who plans out his checkpoints and sometimes (often in vain) tries to figure out off-course correction with the e6b and stopwatch. Keeps me amused while flying longer legs. :)

When I start IR, I'll probably change it up. I dunno yet.

I didn't mention in my first post that I have two flight bags my smaller one i carry airmap, sectionals, one flash light, logbook,kneeboard oh yea headset. Everything in the picture is for my cross countries but yeah your right I probably could cut back on some items. Oh as for the many flashlight I just started collecting them I know you can't use them all at the same time. My flight instructor says along as all my stuff doesn't interfere with cockpit management he's cool with it.

BTW my cross country bag weighs in at 18lbs

My instructor has me do this every time I go up its a pain in the a$$ but I can tell you what I understand why they make us student do it at the school I goto.
