Job market

This is quite possible, as I've never done the job. However, what skill or knowledge does a dispatcher bring that the guy who can actually operate the aircraft cant?QUOTE]

Apples to oranges in way, I suppose. I'd take the most stressful day I've had flying over the most stressful day in dispatch any day. There is nothing better than getting your rear-end handed to you on the desk.

EDCTs rampant for ORD? sweet
Departures locked down at IAD UAX? awesome
DEN or DFW is exploding with +TS? even better
Some crazy pax in SAV is obliterated drunk and refusing to take off his 4' sombrero? I give up lol.

If you are looking in DFW area, American Eagle is hiring now.

Jetblue is hiring now too.

Pinnacle is always in need...(based in MEM).

I know several people at fedex, they strongly prefer internal apps already based in MEM. I had an app in that got auto rejected due to lack of a Bachelor's degree...They are serious about that degree...

They also prefer instrument-rated pilots.

I looked into all of those, so far Pinnacle called me but I have heared horror stories about them...

So what do we need to do to be considered if we have a bachelors and ADX? Start throwing boxes into the cargo holds in Memphis in order to be considered?

You could always try Allegiant Air in vegas, they ALWAYS seem to be hiring, I guess not to many ppl jumping at the thought of living in vegas but it seems like it'd be a good start, especially when they start going to HNL/OGG

I have heard of many people who have done just that, gotten jobs with Pinnacle and part-time jobs at FedEx...they like internal applicants evidently and that gives the Pinnacle people an "in." Of course, I am not a MEM fan so I don't think it's something I ever would have tried.

Ugh now I really dot know what to do. I dont mind Memphis and I would actually like doing the part time thing with FedEx. Its just I havent heared good things about Pinnacle. Has anyone heared anything different? Does anyone know if they place you in in one of their subsidiaries like colgan or mesaba or you have to apply directly? thanks

MEM is a depressing, crime ridden town. Pinnacle has ads up it seems every couple of weeks so that should tell you something. Colgan and Mesaba are separate entities that do their own hiring. Good luck. Have you heard back from Eagle?

MEM may not be the best of places, but if it gets your foot in the door then it might just be worth it.
