JetBlue video interview

Hoping that it all works this time, anyone have an advice or experience on doing a JetBlue video interview? I’ve spoken with some friends who are recent hires, but casting a wider net here. I’ve done two for Allegiant to TBNT, so I’m not unfamiliar with the idea. Thanks.

I'd check out the latest gouge for the nitty gritty details... and other than prepping for it like you would for the actual interview, being yourself, and not shooting the video in the lav I'm sure that you'll do great. (Look in the camera, treat it like a facetime conversdation with the recruiter, read the instructions carefully, have your interview stories preloaded and primed, etc.) Lots of us here can answer the day-to-day stuff about life at the BeeSix, if you live in base it's a great job.

There is some spot on gouge out there with what questions will be asked. Literally NO surprises. I used post it notes on the computer screen and sort of outlined each question answers with bullet points so I could reference them without looking away when answering something like "Other than safety, what value would do you feel is the most important?" FWIW I passed the video interview portion.

Have a dilemma with this now. You have 168 hours to complete the interview from receiving the email. Thanks to EWR and my company, I didn’t make it home tonight to collect my laptop and other items for my interview and thanks to my I won’t be home until the window is almost closed to do the interview.

Do I ask for more time? Seems like a bad idea, a week is sufficient for many I imagine.

Do I do the best I can with my iPad and wear my uniform to dress up, explaining somewhere if I can?

Do I call off and go home anyway, do the interview and then call in well? I have no occurrences and tons of sick time.

We all know interviewing is a struggle and getting to this point took some work and some favors. I want to get it done but I don’t want it to suck either.

Call out sick and go home. This is your future career you are talking about, and a pretty lucrative one at that. If I were you (and I was you but thankfully made it home) i’d want the most solid Internet connection, the best video equipment, and most importantly the most comfortable environment where I could be relaxed and prepared to score the face-to-face interview.

If you do call in sick and go home, what’s the worst possible thing that could happen to you?

Even if there was. What are they going to do call your employer and ask?

Yeah, exactly.

Everyone has to make their own choices and weigh risks vs. rewards of course, but when it comes to getting to the next rung in this industry you (the applicant) need to think about you.

And anecdotal only, in three years I've interviewed at four 121s at every level of the industry and not a one has even come close to asking anything of the sort.

I wouldn't bother with a sick call for a video interview. If you're able to ask for an extension, I would do so, otherwise I would do it in uniform and just explain it.

Also, it should go without saying, but if for some reason they don't understand this set of circumstances or would want you to call out sick(!) to try to get it, it isn't an employer that you'd want to work for. I don't think they're that way from any of the JB peeps I know.

So I ended up waiting until the last day, supposed to get home in plenty of time. I tried to do it on my iPad and my phone on my previous trip, it didn't work out with the test videos, so I stopped.

Well, we left IAD for PIT and I put my headphones on and dozed. I heard announcements being made about landing in Dulles. I just thought it was the crew mis-speaking because, well, who hasn't done that? Then I realized we'd been in the air an hour for whats at most 40 minute flight. Then I noticed the sun was on the wrong side of the airplane. Yep, we were over PIT and diverted back to IAD with an anti-ice problem. This is the story of my life, folks...

I didn't make it home until after the interview time was up. I did contact a JB person and told them my story. They extended it for me and I took it the next day.

Wasn't a video interview, just an audio recording with the following questions:

1. Resume run through- 5 minute limit - 2 chances to record

2. What WOULDN'T you change about your current company - 3 min- One take, no chances to re-record

3. What motivates you to go to work? 3 min- One take

4. Muti-engine time breakdown-3 min- 2 chances

5. Total flight time breakdown- 1 min- 2 chances

6. Checkride/training failures- ANY. 10 minutes 2 chances

7. Accidents/Violations-ANY 10 minutes 2 chances

8 jetBlues 5 core values and how you exemplify them at your current job. 3 min- One take
