Oh and one thing I've noticed is that when flying above FL300 all pilots ever do is bitc_h about where its smooth. How's the ride higher? The ride here is good. We'd like to fly east for smoother. etc etc it goes on and on.

And is it me, or do United Airlines pilots ask about the ride more than all the other crews combined? Every plane still in the climb asks at least one controller, and maybe the next sector too.

I'm usually guilty of this (although we are below FL250). It just gets annoying to be bumping along in light continuous when you just made this announcement to turn off the seat belt sign. Plus it increases customer satisfaction to have a smooth ride.

I know i'm bumping an old thread but...

I work for JetBlue right now, turning the planes that come in and making sure they go out on time. A lot of our training before we even get out on the job is on the "Blue Turn." We can meet a plane, service it, and begin boarding in less than 20 minutes. Obviously, most of the time we don't have to do it in 20 minutes (usually anywhere from 35 - 60), so it isn't a problem to leave. I push the majority of my planes out anywhere from 5 - 10 minutes early, in fact.

The only reason i've had a plane leave the gate late so far is from a back-up in the TSA line/customers outside on the phone when they should have already been at the gate (why can't they use their phone at the gate? Especially when they were among the FIRST to check in!)

I thought Jetblue was among the worst with respect to on time performance. Having operated out of JFK frequently...it is a terrible place to try to run a hub and operate on time.

I just checked....DOT and Air Travel Consumer...for the 12 months ending Sept 2005...Jetblue was 16 out of 20 in on time performance of major reporting airlines.

I would guess....as they begin to run the 100 seaters into the hub... they will suffer not only worse on time ratings as the hub bogs down...but suffer in customer service marks as well.

It seems to me...they best way to ruin a customer's experience at the airport is to consistently run late.

From flying on jetBlue before I know that those maps that tell you how high and how fast you are going on your IFE system are not always completly accurate.

What did I say a long time ago? The IFE said that our aircraft was at 41K. Now if the IFE was wrong thats another story, but it's what I saw and it's what I reported.

Plus, any airline that doesn't use automatic time reporting (I don't know if they do or not) runs on time. Similar to when Shuttle by United went head to head against SWA. Shuttle pulled out the automatic times reporting and automagically ended up an 'on time' operation.

Doug, what exactly is the automatic time reporting? Care to explain a bit??

One of the things that came along with ACARS to SWA was automagic reporting of Out-Off-On-In times (sorry, forgot my name's not Doug).

Also, please allow me to beat a dead horse further and reference the A32x type certificate... A28NM. The whole family has a max operating altitude of 39,800 feet (depending on "embodied" mods), however the Airbus Corporate Jet (A319) can go up to FL410.

Yeah, all of JetBlue's times are based on the ACARS light.

And i'm not sure about JFK (I know it's horrible), but I rarely see one of our planes leave LGB late. It's a small, not very-busy airport if you've never been there, but it has the most JetBlue flights than any other airport (except JFK).
