JET UNIVERSITY and banks!!

I figure the Jet U thing is the standard "horse, water, why don't he drink" parable.

It's the situation where you're looking for a snack, there's a street taco on some back corner run by someone who hasn't washed his hands for days. Against better judgement, you get a couple of tacos al pastor and end up spending the next six hours on the toilet.

No one wants to see anyone get sick, hurt or scammed, but at what point do you inquire about the person's responsibility to have looked at the situation objectively, rather than for the moment?

There is and was a wild bouquet of information about the perils of programs like this, some people got involved, some people got burned and here I sit wondering how lucky people were to be able to throw around tens of thousands of dollars freely, without even the basic research.

Hell, I wouldn't buy a television without research, scouring the net for both good AND bad information in order to make a informed decision. Even if I get burned, I still have a television, with a receipt, and at least a 14 day return policy from where I bought it.

Doug,

Today all of the flight school information and all of the flight school traps are detailed on the student website at www.jetuniversitysucks.com.

This includes cancellation policies, refund policies, pay in advance policies, etc. The way the scams are run and what to look out for are all there.

The guarantees that aren't worth the paper they are written on or the video tape they were shot on are all there.

There is no other place that I know of that has all of this information in one central location.

It will be more difficult for the bad guys to pull off a scam of this magnitude in the future because those students put that website up. However, the scams still continue at some Florida flight schools because there is no regulation in place to stop them.

The Wachovia fraud suit against Mr. Cohen and Mr. George is just the beginning of their legal troubles. I will go out on a limb and say there are probably more coming. The students have not filed their suit yet and there might be criminal charges as well that we don't yet know about. Did you know that someone that gets a civil or criminal fraud judgment can not discharge it in bankruptcy court?

Let's hope the next bad guy that wants to scam flight school students, in Florida, pays attention to these two "industry leaders" and pick a better business plan.

On the other hand, you might not want to hear this, but Jet U had the highest percentage of students getting through Pinnacle indoc training when compared to every other bridge program out there. The Jet U number was just under 80% success rate. Every other school was lower. So something was working in that area.

I know standards dropped for a few years during the 250 hour pilot hiring binge by regionals, but did they drop so low that success was measured by how many "graduates" got through just the first week of airline training?

"Nearly 4/5 Jet U. Grads can stay awake enough to answer a five question quiz at the end of the day".

That's amazing, I take it all back, you're all geniuses who should be allowed to breathe my air and touch the controls.

No, I think you misread the post. The Pinnacle training is a lot more than a week long. One of the Pinnacle guys will hopefully come along and tell us how long it takes to go through the program before the check ride.

Boris, I don't know where you got that from, but I don't think an airline will put pilots in their cockpits after someone answers five questions at the end of the day.

What I pointed out was that Jet University had the highest percentages of students, OF ANY FLIGHT SCHOOL IN THE US, that passed the Pinnacle indoc program.

If you don't like the Jet University student pass rate then I would guess you don't like the pass rate from all of the other (well known and respected) flight schools and universities.

I don't know what the indoc pass rate is at other airlines. 80% may be good. I just don't know. Maybe some of you airline pilots can shed some light on what percentage passed in your airline hiring class.

Indoc is at most a week, and I have never hear of anyone not passing indoc. That is why I asked who gave you the pass numbers. To tell you the truth with enough bananas I could get a monkey to pass indoc and maybe systems.

Every prospective student that came to Jet U talked to the current students about the program before they enrolled there. Not one current student pilot told any prospective student that things were not as they were supposed to be. In fact, they verified that the program was really as advertised.

Heath Cohen did a great job of getting the students that would have said something kicked out of the place embarrassed that they were not able to finish. That allowed the scam to continue.

So it must have been a small number of people getting screwed, because if enough were kicked out, there wouldn't be any students left. I'm just surprised no one gave them the heads up...

The best numbers we have are 126 students were screwed in the Jet University scam and 54 students actually received what they paid for.

Wait... when does this story get to the "bad idea" part?

That's like a day-to-day thing for me. At least until I get out of Texas.

Yeah, but you can handle it!

Now the standard Taco Bell eatin' Southie from Boston is going to crap his pants! ;)
