Jet sucks a safety pylon into its engine

Last week I made the mistake at an FBO of removing the chocks by kicking the one that was on the front tire around back so I could just taxi out on my own. SE turboprop so it wouldn't have caused any kind of a hazard.

Then, beacon ON and with me about to hit the starter, out of the corner of my eye I catch a guy running from the right side of the airplane and up underneath, its an FBO guy coming to grab the chock and marshal me out.

Beacon dude, let it go.

Lesson learned on my end, kick the damned thing completely clear.

Am I the only one who thinks, that it looked intentional? Not my area of expertise but it looked like he tossed something into the intake

Nobody comes near a UPS jet when the beacon is still on. I know this because I have to be an F/O about twice a year. I always forget to turn the beacon off on the shutdown flow. It's funny how we then sit in the cockpit wondering why nobody out there is doing anything but staring at us. After about five minutes of this I realize I forgot the beacon...again.

It seems like he was hesitant to put it down at first, then suddenly was OK with the idea. You can see a bit of the WTF action going on in the cockpit. Probably the end of a 4 day too, both with a flight to catch.

I'm waiting for the memo to come out.

It's only a matter of time in ORD, or any of the major hubs for that matter.

I was thinking about this the other day; I wonder why there aren't some flush-mounted LEDs/miniature strobes around the cowl … something more apparent than the main beacon for when the engine is running.
