JC Surfers?

These waves make it easily a bucket list item to see before I die....preferably over Pipe. I just love the darkness and thickness. It's just pure beauty.
I have seen some incredible waves like that in Maui, Waimea, Pipeline and other spots in Hawaii. From the shore only. My theory is that when you have to be towed out to waves that are that far from shore and generally those waves are some of the largest generated on the planet, that is waves that are 20 to 60 plus feet high, that my little ass is fine on the shore watching. The currents can be so dangerous and you can have your butt slammed right into the sea bottom or a reef, you can be hit by more than one wave, drown, break your neck or back, have no chance to swim to the surface...any number of scenarios. Several well known tow surfers have died over the years. It's a young person's game and a young person who is willing to take those kind of risks. It's awesome to watch, but man......some scarey stuff. The power that waves like that generate is unbelievable.

Speaking of great riders...Happy Birthday to one of the greats that ever surfed.

I've been to Maui but never went to pipe. I'd love to watch Pipe if it was the right time. John John makes surfing look easy there. I can't imagine what it's like to wipeout and then have another set right behind you about to come crashing down. Everyone always assumes "Pipeline" has the biggest waves in the world but I think Tahiti has always been underrated. I think it'd be fun to sit in one of those boats! As long as we don't go smacking into the waves and end up on YouTube. Not sure how to even do that though....

Myself, I wouldn't even hit those waves in any vessel. But that's just me. I'd like to live a little longer.

There are rogue/maverick waves on all the continents really. 60 and 70 footers are common at Maui (Jaws),Tasmania, Tahiti, the mavericks in Northern Ca, there have been almost mile long waves at some 70 feet up at Cortes Bank in Ca., 70 and 80 footers off Portugal, Dungeons at Cape Town South Africa, Parts of Western Australia, Chile, Cape Fear, NSW, The Right up in WA, Fiji, Peru, Bali, the Philippines.

For perspective, a 50 footer carries about 1.7 MW of power across each meter of wave front, in a 15-second period scenario.

Carlos Burle, one of the world's top large wave riders.

Here is McNamara's 78 foot wave ride

It's hard to imagine one little guy in a neoprene wet suit riding a stick of foam, resin and fiberglass in those waves isn't it? Still blows my tiny mind. There are really only a handful of surfers who can ride these waves successfully.

These are the mammoth waves at Jaws, Maui

Tons of sharks in this video. You can see some real monsters if you are quick with the pause button. New Smyrna Beach. They're always there underneath, but it's usually too murky to see them.

Unlike @dasleben who is closed minded and hates SUP's, I am open minded and every once in a while put down my paddle and ride a regular board. Meh.

Are you using a Go Pro for that shot? It's terrific. The water beading and washing on the board is so "real" like you could just reach out, touch the screen and feel the wet.

I missed this weeks swell due to work. Today was small, but nice shape. While @dasleben continues to trash talk SUP's, I had a great time

Another swell moves in tomorrow, right as I start a 6 day.

Watched some of the US Open of SUP today, these guys are doing incredible things. Some of them are riding boards that sink down to their waist.

Have you ever thought about taking one of the clinics that are held by the various pros in Huntington from time to time? I bet you'd enjoy the hell out of that.
