I've made up my mind about making up my mind...

Sig,

I wouldn't get down on yourself. You apparently made a series of several good decisions that made you end up with an airline job to begin with. Theres lots of pros and cons to each regional. My first choice was Colgan and it was the only place I applied after months of thought. I know I am going to work my butt off and probably get disgruntled at times, but it's better than flight instructing and I should get to the majors quicker. Sure, you could make $40 an hour as a second year FO at another regional a year+ from now, but wouldn't you rather make $40 an hour as a Captain in less time? I know some people preach lifestyle, but I say do what's best for your career and wallet. That extra 1-2 last years at the majors is buku retirement money $$ :)

BTW, I'm based in ALB too, but I don't think I've met you, I'm one of the newbie Saab FOs.

Just seems like if it was in place a lot more guys would be getting on with them. I've met a couple of captains who haven't had any luck with CAL. BUT who knows eh. Maybe it's just the saab guys that get that?

Keep your eye on the goal

Whats the goal though? ;)

QOL or $$$ ?

Personally QOL is way more important to me than making money in life. If your a lucky person you can find both.

If your goal is to be flying a 777 around the world thats great, but you're just gonna be bitter and misrable till you get there.

CLICHE ALERT!!

Life is too damn short!!

I say go get your float plane rating, move to the Maldives, fly twotters, and live in effin paradise!! $5000 a month with NO bills! Everything is paid for you!

I just cant think of better flying....

Thats my plan in the next few years anyways. Thats about the closest I can find to QOL and $$$. :)

Exactly! I KNOW how valuable PIC time is, but say something happens and I get stuck at a regional for longer than I thought. Do I want to be building PIC but hating my life and my company, and worrying the FAA is gonna bust me for Colgans screw up? (Trust me its happened more than a few times) or wait it out a while longer and be HAPPY with my job even if its SIC?

After all I'm only 24, I still have lots of time on my side. My biggest problem is, I dont really know what I want out of my career. Do I want to be a 787 international Capt or be happy with smaller domestic stuff? I don't really know. I really was all set to stay at Colgan because I thought ALPA would pass, but now its gonna be all hell and its our own fault. This were so much better as a flight instructor when I hadn't a care other than getting in the right seat of my DPCTP (Dull Paint Chipped Turboprop)

(Vincent Vega voice) You dig it the most!

Longest flight....oh 38m!

Landing by an island the size of a wal-mart

All you need in your flight bag is a pair of DC's, flip flops, and your favorite Senor frog's beer koozie. My kinda gig.

Lets do it! Seriously

There's always www.seaborneairlines.com, if you want to say 'screw it' and move down to the Caribbean.

Hum... but they are asking for a multi-engine seaplane rating though....

You do what you think is best for you. Either way there's a down side. You do a lateral and you might lose a chance to upgrade for a few years. If you're willing to accept that, great. There's also a chance you won't even need PIC to move on. If you stay at Colgan, you could upgrade build tons of PIC and go nowhere. It could happen. You really just don't know. You're doing the right thing, though by looking around. Just don't let someone who's obviously unhappy with life discourage you from going in a certain direction.

Miserable? I don't know about you guys but Ive worked as a bagboy at a grocery store, telemarketer, and table waiter. There are a lot of jobs out there more miserable than flying a turboprop for Colgan. Just my 2 cents..

I considered that, but I heard that the Maldives government "be trippin" sometimes.:)

You aren't working here so you don't know the kinda BS our pilots deal with on a daily basis. Our management sucks, crew scheduling is heartless, dispatch is clueless, and maintanence is lazy. Last night we came close to a shutdown in flight because of an engine indication and what does dispatch tell us to do when we are less than 30 miles from our destination? GO BACK TO NY WE DONT HAVE MAINTANENCE THERE! Hmmm yeah ok a**whipe lets fly back 150miles with a questionable engine. So when we land at our safest suitable airport (per the checklist) and call up, we get a earfull from company. I'm not going to bow down to the company to do whats easier and cheaper for them, if you do the FAA will bite you in the tailcone.

 Marcus, the thing is you'd be making MORE money working as a grocery bagger/telemarketer etc. and deal with half the bull.

Sig, I say we both leave for RAH. Although whats the deal with them, they hiring guys with less then 1000TT? I've got 750TT, 300 Turbine.

What I want to know is. . .what would happen if all 151 of the pilots who did vote in the affirmative. . .what would happen if they resigned and just left, seeking employement elsewhere.

Colgan, and big brother PNCL, would be in some trouble.
