It's about time Bose...

So after speaking to Bose today about a possible upgrade on my 2 month old Aviation Xs all they could do was repeat, it is out of the 30 days and we don't do trade ins. Looks like My Zulus will have some siblings when I make my next purchase.

don't do trade ins? I was going to call them myself today but didn't get the chance. I know up until a little while ago they were still taking those original HUGE bose headsets for trade in value towards the Bose X. I can't imagine them not having a similar program, because I'd love to try out these new A20s, but not unless they're willing to do a trade in program. You figure they'd want people upgrading anyways so why not give the current Bose customers some credit towards a new one.

Again, further evidence of why Bose is a crap company.

For aviation use, I'd go with a Zulu, Sennheiser, or Beyerdynamic.

Just called Bose and you can't listen to music through Bluetooth. That's a deal breaker for me. Good job Bose you didn't include a key feature that
The Zulu has had for years.

And yes music for me on some flights is a must. And when connected wirelessly the music lowers automatically when ATC calls.

Was considering this headset but I don't think I can justify it. I'd never dream giving my Zulu up.

My boss just came back from Oshkosh with two of these along with some other goodies for our plane! We had the X's. Tested them out yesterday on an hour flight. Sound quality is even better than the X! When we turned on the ANR the hum of the engines totally went away. Also gear door, wind noise, and other system noises sound much quieter as well and some noises went away (which made us do a couple double checks a few times haha). Bluetooth works really well. It will be really handy for calling customs with ETA updates, opening/ closing fltplans (although one should probably wait until safely parked on the ramp, fully tied down, triple chocked, and fully defuled), and whatnot.

Also these are much lighter and so far they don't have a clamping feeling the X's would have on my upper ear. But I haven't worn them long enough to get a good feel of that. The X's would start to clamp and hurt my upper ear area after a couple of hours or after several legs.

I have a pair of lightspeeds (15xl) that I instruct with and I have worn the X's for a few hundred hours now. That's what I have to compare to as well as the occasional wearing of an ASA, avcom, david clamp, etc.

In fact, when it threw a rod, I didn't even hear it! ;)

I know of a local company that had Bose headsets in their airplanes and got sick of them breaking all the time and went with Lightspeed instead.

Honestly you can get the new Lightspeed Sierras for
Literally half the price of the A20 and they have the exact same features.

I use the Bose X for work but do not plan on replacing them anytime soon.

I've also had the opportunity to try the Bose A20 headset at Oshkosh in the LightSpeed Zulu tent, ironically. They had a "try side-by-side" counter where I tested both headseats. I still preferred the Bose. The Zulu felt flimsy and the microphone sounded like crap. The Bose was hands down an overall better sounding product with crisp clear audio and microphone.

Maybe change your name to Bosefan?? ;)

Weight:

Aviation X 340g
Aviation A20 340g

Much lighter eh?

Nah, I will stick with JD for John Deer. I loved tractors when I was a kid so that's why I'm a "lil" fan. It has always stuck...

The A20 just feels lighter, but apparently it isn't.

I didn't buy it, if it was my money I would have a zulu. I have owned my 15xl for 8 years now and it has been nearly bulletproof.

Good thing a PT6 doesn't really have a rod to throw? ;)

I got to try on the A20 in the Bose tent last week at Oshkosh, hands down the most comfy headset I've experienced.

Every time the Bose v LightSpeed debate comes up I remember the reason I stopped using the Bose X. I had to send them in for repairs 5 times (that's five for those that prefer typed out numbers) in less than two years of use on the line. No thanks.

That price tag is shocking.
Thanks DC for making great headsets flight instructors and students alike can afford. wow.

Lightspeed will give you credit for any headset you presently own. $200 for a non ANR set and $400 for a bose set.

Can't wait for mine. Should be here in the next couple of days. Will be nice to retire the 13.4's.
