it's a boy!!!

we're at the general hospital, and I don't really have a problem with nurses, I am mostly upset with our doctor because we actually picked this hospital out of our area just because he usually spends more time delivering here, but guess what? he wasn't there to answer any of our questions, we had couple emergencies prior to labor where we couldn't reach him at all and he never followed up, he wasn't here for the delivery, first time he showed up was on the 3rd day after labor. When they need to give Pam different medicine they have to call him, but they can't get a hold of him either, it's like taking a whole day to just get his approval on an anti biotic for fever she's been having. the doctor was just generally not available to us at all and nurses can't do anything without him.

See if your hospital has a "patient advocate." They would be able to hear your concerns and complaints and figure out how to handle them. If not, ask to see the hospital's director (or whoever the highest person in charge there is).
You are the customer, and they need to deal with you!
Very frustrating, I know, but typical of hospitals.

If b-feeding is something you are very firm on doing (and that's totally fine if you are) then DO NOT give in to their "demands" to give baby formula. I did not b-feed either of my kids, but I totally respect the stand of people who do. They have no right to demand to give a baby formula, ESPECIALLY in a case like yours where it sounds like the b-feeding is going so very well. (Sometimes that's not the case and formula supplementing becomes necessary for the health of the infant, but again that just does not sound like that's a problem for you.)

As for the doctor's unavailability, that's just wrong and I agree you're probably going to have to start raising a stink :(. Finding a "patient advocate" is probably a good start. Even starting to work up the chain of hospital administration, especially if you're dealing with a belligerent/unhelpful nursing staff.

Sorry the hospital stay is so awful.... I hope things get resolved soon!

I just had another thought....you might want to call your insurance carrier and tell them the issues you're having with the doctor. If he's in their network, they should be made aware that he's not living up to the standards a patient should be able to expect and one that they're paying him for!

haven't thought of that, thanks, I think we'll definitely bring this up when we take Evan to register with tricare prime. we started seeing this doctor before we got married so we haven't been enrolled in tricare prime yet which means we will have to pay some money out of our pockets for this, and we also didn't wanna change the doctor in the middle of pregnancy just to enroll in tricare prime, but boy I wish we had. Thanks for good words of advice, you all have been very supportive and helful, we definitely appreciate that. Pam seems to be feeling a little bit better today. Evan's jaundice is going away too, I hope we will get out tomorrow.

I'm so annoyed. I'm on antibiotics via an iv and I'm still having fevers...

One of these should clear it right up :-P

Thats fantastic you two. Pam I am glad my fiance isn't on here, if she read that she wouldnt let me near her when we get married in May. Congrats.

Pam and Oliver, your son is beautiful, DON'T let them give the boy formula, he may not breast feed anymore. anyway as for the doctor, MALPRACTICE works... just a thought... if you dont want to try that route let me know I will threaten him.

evan is a beautiful baby, but we just had such a bad experience overall, tonight she had her IV put in for the third time to keep the medicine going because last two times it failed and when they tried to flush it they just hurt the bejesus outta her. aparently there were no effective antibiotic pills for that.

Honestly, most people I don't think have anywhere near as many issues or complications as what I've had. I guess the only way to end a perfect pregnancy is with an aweful labor and recovery. It has truely been one of the most painful weeks of my life but everytime I look at my boys (Evan and Oliver) I'm in utopia and would do it all over again. I adore my new role as mommy and can't wait to get out of the hospital and take him home. The only thing I would do differently is that I wouldn't let Oliver take pictures of me literally 30 mins after I woke up after the surgery, send them to Joe and then have Joe put them on the internet...thanks Joe! lol jkOh and don't worry, no one gave my lil guy formula. I wasn't kidding about it. He's feeding really well and his jaundice levels came back down and looks like a couple extra feedings from mom during the day was all it took. He's so good. He still only cries when he has a poopy diaper. One of the nursery nurses today said that every shift they assign people to the different patients and when she came in this morning and saw Evan was still there she really wanted him but several other girls had already requested him too. lol Looks like I have a lil ladies man! :)

Ya'll hang in there. You'll be home before you know it. Once again, Congratulations. Get ready for Barney and Bear and Tigger and all those great "friends". It really is a blessing having a child.:):):):):)

Wow, the moment I start neglecting to check JC, I miss something good! Congrats you two!:) It's such a great feeling to become a parent (it's all uphill from now!) I had the pleasure of going through it three times and I wouldn't take a day of it back.;) We breast fed all three and supplimented with formula. It helps out in a bind, such as long car rides, while traveling, or at night to give momma a rest. But to each his own. Enjoy every day!:)

Wow how did I miss this thread? Congratulations Oliver and Pam!:rawk:
Evan looks very healthy in my opinion, what is jaundice?
