it pays to check for grammar & spelling...

[ QUOTE ]
Look at it this way, everyone. Every time you post on this board, you are networking. The impressions you give can be good or bad.

I had a PM about a year ago from a JCer who was looking for a job as a CFI in my area. Before I recommended him to a friend of mine who runs a little flight school here, I checked out his profile, called Doug to see if he had any issues with Mr. JCer, and then went back and READ EVERY SINGLE POST he had ever made. I then made my decision to recommend him. If I had seen an attitude, or a history of rambling, misspelled posts, then I would have said "Sorry, I don't know of anything."

Remember, first impressions are hard to do over the second time. Make good ones, and never burn bridges in aviation. That's my advice, and those of you who want to misspell things, talk like you're on a chatroom, or love to argue on a moments notice, keep it up. It makes it easier to figure out who to help out.

grammer basher of Jetcareers.com forums

[/ QUOTE ]

I never thought of myself as a "basher", i'm like the nicest person in the world that only wants everyone to succeed - but so be it, grammAR basher it is!

At first glance I was like "Oooh, that kinda bites!
crazy.gif
", but then I figured I'd better suck it up like a parent has to suck it up for their kids
banghead.gif
and say:

"I honestly wasn't trying to play "mean adult" or anything, but if that's how ya'll want to view it, then fine by me. Sometimes adults can't be your friends because they have something to teach and it's up to you to take it, learn from it and be mature about it"

and you know your parents would say something attune to this:

"I'm not your friend.. i'm here to make you succeed and if you don't like that - too bad! now, go to your room and stay there - no TV for a month for you!" hahahaha

True! You are in fact networking!

The funny thing is that people that read my rantings form opinions about me before I even meet them, so it's funny that some people that think I'm a blatant a**hole breate a little sigh of relief that I'm actually a friendly guy, and others that think I'm a flaccid puffball look a little suprised when I drop the first accidental "F Bomb" when I first meet them!

Hilarious!

Well I'm very anal....about spelling, grammar and punctuation. But hope this sight doesn't turn into gestapo.com.
Brian why does a 15 yr. need to be looking up his 7th grade teacher.
Should he still be a teacher having contact with a former student who is still a minor might possibly put his job and future in jeopardy. Even though you wouldn't be doing anything wrong perception is often greater then reality. More especially in a student teacher relationship!

i.e. tread lightly.

lol I know probably my name was brought up when it came to this, yes I understand that it is a learning experience for us and also a very useful tool. I too was flammed by the "loveable" falcon capt and other about my grammar and spelling on the threads and I have corrected myself. However, some people on these boards are just out to flame one another for the smalest reasons.

The only reason I want to look up my 7th grade teacher is to see what he is doing in aviation. I always told him I wanted to be a pilot and I learned a lot from him just from asking questions during class. It would be nice for him to know that it actually paid off.

thought i'd take it out of the thread it was in so as not to disturb said thread!

And Tony you mean "affect" is the verb and "effect" is the noun. I was an English major in college. Then I proofread papers for two years afterwards. It sucked.

At the risk of being one of them, here's another one: change the avatar. Who wants to see a close-up of your do-it-yourself mug shot, anyways? Sheesh...how about an airplane, or a cute little kitten or something?

As for the spelling/grammar issue, why not get into the habit of typing correctly the first time? Sure, its "just an internet message board," but aside from making a good impression for networking, it's also good practice. If you repeatedly type with poor form, it becomes a habit. If you repeatedly type with good form, it becomes a habit. Which habit would you prefer to have? After constantly typing properly (spelling and grammar), you'll do it automatically. Of course everyone makes mistakes, but at least your posts will be readable. I for one, skip right on past posts that look like they were composed by an eight year old, and I'm certain that I'm not the only one. [This paragraph not meant toward anyone in particular, just everyone who can't create a coherent post.]

[/ QUOTE ]No worries mate! I don't take things too personally anymore since that just makes you go crazy after a while (esp being a g.i.r.l.) - You've been fine in my book and as far as i'm concerned you still are! I'm still kinda just having some fun with the whole grammar goon squad thing now! hahaha

Altho, I have to admit that I won't be policing as much as MikeD's Good Squad!

just every now and then...

btw - I was going to mention (about you mentioning becoming an official member?).. that you are an official member once you sign onto the board, just that the new user title doesn't disappear until you reach I think 50 or 100 posts.. after that, you'll become member or something like that...it's an automatic update!

btw - I thought Captchris did a great job this time with his grammar and spell checking compared to all the past posts... both him and brian are starting to look like they have much brighter futures!

and no, I don't think anyone will be running a gestapo type grammar check on here, just maybe in worst case senarios that the "law" might have to be laid down

I already tried that argument and lost big. I don't want to see any pictures of any dude's ugly mugs either but there just seems to be no use fighting it. They put a picture of themselves in a C-152 with a close up of them and their dave clarks and they think it's the coolest thing since sliced bread.
