it pays to check for grammar & spelling...

[ QUOTE ]
If you allow kids to respond on this site, you half to accept their grammatical errors.

[/ QUOTE ]

Ummm, no.

Go Kristie. Keep in mind that spelling and grammar are not being emphasized in many government schools. Many students are arriving at and (unfortunately) exiting college unable to read and write effectively. What you are seeing on the board is what many college instructors are seeing.

wheni=when I

I agree with Kristie! (skies open, hailstones on fire, dead rising from the grave, dogs and cats living together, etc.)

Learn to spell. Learn to put a sentence together. Learn the correct word for the meaning. You'll be glad you did!

Brian, check a couple of data banks for your former teacher.

www.swithcboard.com

www.faa.gov

If he has a current medical, he will be listed in the FAA data bank. Even if he lost the 1st class medical at UPS, he might hold a 3rd class medical.

Thanks

I got 14 matches and I think I found him living in Davie. They gave me his phone number but the email is harder to find. I want to find the email so I don't call a whole bunch of people asking if they were my teacher in 7th grade.

Just a quick word of warning. Future employers may be reading these posts. Is ths tha weigh you really want them to see (and remember) you?

Ok, to check I went to the FAA Airmen registry and found him as "David Alexander Good" living in Davie, FL. However, the registry only lists up to his CFII. Could he have worked as a UPS FO with ratings just up to CFII? So what do I do now? I wanted to find his email but it's kind of hard to find that for free.

I can whine about this topic all day long. Well, I am not a perfect speller or use correct grammar 100 percent of time(English is second language for me). However, my past job was a high school science / healther teacher(9th grader). If you have ever grade students' hand-written papers, you will be amazed how they write. In my opinion, there are two main reasons why so many mistakes occurs.

1. Most of my students write like the way they converse.
--> They write like how they type online. i.e. BTW for by the way.
2. They are lazy students.

I always have more than 5 English dictionaries in my classroom. However, my students always ask me how to spell words. I finally said this in front of class - "Think about this - You are asking a foreigner to spell an English word for you. What is wrong with that picture. You suppose know more English words than I do. Please look it up in a dictionary."

I agree with Adreamer. I have people in my 10th grade english honors class asking me how to spell some middle school level words.

Depends on what is said.

In all seriousness, folks, I used to supervise staff. That meant that I went through resumes to select people to fill that staff.

And you can be damn sure that any time I saw a grammatical error or word that was spelled wrong in a cover letter or resume that they never got a call.

If you're going to be sloppy when you're trying to put your best foot forward, what are you going to be like when I hire you? So why should I bring you in for an interview?

And we won't go into the number of people who thought it was cool to wear a pit stained shirt to their interviews or who didn't seem to have bothered to showered that day. That would be a negative on the job, mister. I ain't hiring someone who won't take the time to clean up for the interview.

[/ QUOTE ]I really don't have a pet peeve against spelling, but i know others on the site do...

there used to be a spell checker in the forums and for some reason UBB got rid of it. there isn't even a spell checker for the newest 6.5 version either which is just odd! i should probably mention that to them.. haha

good catch on my your/you're Steve - I always get those two mixed up and most of the time, i get too lazy to think about it! completely my bad!
