Good luck finding a title 4 school that takes Key Bank. I know of maybe three. Pan Am, FSA & Ari-Ben. The first two will have you at $100k+ for your training. The other is in Florida...nuff said it's Florida.

Yeah. . .we are thinking about buying a house when we move back down to GA after I seperate from the military. I have contemplated the idea of throwing the cost to finish my training into the home loan.

Check out www.falconaviationacademy.com. They're in Atlanta and have a special "in" with ASA post training. But they're not title 4 and use SLM! But they're Doug Taylor and Jetcareers approved!

*They have a forum on the site!

Oh I know about Falcon. They are my school of choice already, take a closer look at their forum. :) I'm originally from the PTC area, I'll call them later this week and find out what their deal with SLM is.

Let me know what you find out. I'm deciding tween them and Skymates. But SKYM is in the lead currently!

You got it man.

I get out of work at about 7 eastern, then get home around 8 am. I'll try to give them a ring when I come through the door. If not today, tomorrow morning since I won't have to work on Tuesday night.

Take a look at my thread about touring the facility. They also have two of their DA42s on property now.

Its always amusing when you ask for a directors personal guarantee from these acadamies that want/require you to pay up front. They immediately refuse to give you one even after going through the song and dance of telling you how `safe' your money will be.:insane:

P.S by Directors guarantee I mean a written liability form which is activated when an insolvency action occurs.

Pan Am is no longer using Key Bank as a financial resource. :(

I think it has a lot to do with pressure tactics and being under informed, I am reluctant to use the term naïve.

Why? "Naive" is an accurate description, just like "ignorant" is. If someone takes offense to the usage of accurate vocabulary, then they need to relax and it's not your problem.

I know, and you're absolutely right.

I just make it a habit to try to be as non-offensive as possible, particularly on forums. I think too much s*** stirring takes place on forums, this one being no exception unfortunately. This is something in which I go out of my way not to contribute to, if I can help it.

I simply didn’t want some guy that got burned with an up front deposit, or money on account, read my thread and reply asking why I was calling him, specifically of course, ignorant.

Oh yes. "Keyboard Courage".

With a keyboard, a small waifish person wouldn't have any problem or threat by picking a fight with a guy like Seggy -- something that they surely wouldn't do in person without running the risk of ending up as the ground meat element in a fresh batch of holiday empenadas.

Mmmmm...empanadas.

Every school that I have talked to who uses SLM has it set up that way. SLM sends them the money directly and then they can either give you the living expense money back at one time or on a month to month basis.

That last part depends on the indivdual school however.

Of COURSE they have it set up that way. They want yo money. However, I got a check from SLM made out to ME for some of my hard borrowed cash. Tell SLM (not the SCHOOL) how much $$$ you want/need for living expenses, and they send you a check for that. I actually had to delay going to Skymates b/c I was waiting on the check....

I see. . . perhaps this is why all these schools request you to contact them before you file with SLM?

So is the trick to file with SLM directly, instead of going through the school's representative?

The trick is to earmark $XXX for "living expenses" on the application. I think there's a place to determine what you want as far as tuition as well as living expenses. The schools that say "don't worry! We'll do it for you!" put everything down as tuition and dole the money out little by little for living expenses.

Based on the past three months, I'd recommend anything BUT SLM if you can find it. The right hand has no CLUE what the left hand is doing. I've made payments, only to get a harrassing phone call weeks later telling me I'm late. Really? Here's your confirmation number. Got a pen handy? I said that to one of them on the phone last week. This has happened so often that I've started writing down confirmation numbers the web site gives me, something I've never bothered to do before. Oh, and a week later. I got ANOTHER phone call telling me it was about to go to collections. WTF?!??! I PAID it two weeks ago, AND told another phone jockey about it. Now I'm STILL getting calls. To make matters worse, they were starting to call my co-borrower as well. If I had it to do over again, I probably woulda just worked my butt off and paid cash....

Kell do you have the ability to do auto-debit? I don't have SLM but I use citibank's auto payment feature for my loan. Payments always arrive on time, and I got a 0.5% break on the interest rate (now at 2.75%)
