Thats the way SLM does things.
Well, I hope that they get ripped off so they can change their practices much akin to Keybank! It's inevitable!

I yi yi. . . my wife is going to explode when I tell her this fine gem of information. Very glad I found this out now, instead of 5 months in the future.
Yeah. . .we are thinking about buying a house when we move back down to GA after I seperate from the military. I have contemplated the idea of throwing the cost to finish my training into the home loan.
Oh I know about Falcon. They are my school of choice already, take a closer look at their forum.I'm originally from the PTC area, I'll call them later this week and find out what their deal with SLM is.
Let me know what you find out. I'm deciding tween them and Skymates. But SKYM is in the lead currently!
Good luck finding a title 4 school that takes Key Bank. I know of maybe three. Pan Am, FSA & Ari-Ben. The first two will have you at $100k+ for your training. The other is in Florida...nuff said it's Florida.
I think it has a lot to do with pressure tactics and being under informed, I am reluctant to use the term naïve.
Why? "Naive" is an accurate description, just like "ignorant" is. If someone takes offense to the usage of accurate vocabulary, then they need to relax and it's not your problem.
I just make it a habit to try to be as non-offensive as possible, particularly on forums. I think too much s*** stirring takes place on forums, this one being no exception unfortunately. This is something in which I go out of my way not to contribute to, if I can help it.
Every school that I have talked to who uses SLM has it set up that way. SLM sends them the money directly and then they can either give you the living expense money back at one time or on a month to month basis.
That last part depends on the indivdual school however.
Of COURSE they have it set up that way. They want yo money. However, I got a check from SLM made out to ME for some of my hard borrowed cash. Tell SLM (not the SCHOOL) how much $$$ you want/need for living expenses, and they send you a check for that. I actually had to delay going to Skymates b/c I was waiting on the check....
I see. . . perhaps this is why all these schools request you to contact them before you file with SLM?
So is the trick to file with SLM directly, instead of going through the school's representative?
