Is flying still worth it?

A couple of weeks ago I posted about my job being in jeporday and maybe going to work for Colgan. Well turns out our routes are here until the go away which nobody seems to know when. But over the last couple of months, a disgruntled employee has turned against me in an attempt to keep his job. He's gone to the CP and told him lies about my unprofessionalism. Even asked if he and another pilot should double up for next week in order to get more money.

He was furloughed when we lost some runs and I continued to fly since I seniority on him. He ran out of 135 currency and was no longer covered under work mans comp. But he and another pilot went on a route together last week where he 'acted' as PIC. So he CP asked me to take a picture of this since he knew about it from hearing him on the radio. I did, but looking back I think I shouldn't have. But yesterday I get a phone call from my CP about an email that was sent to our DO and the FAA about how I was doing aerobatics on a 135 flight.

Well that just takes the cake. I know he has nothing on me. But dang, rumors spread like wildfire around here. The local CFI even heard about this before I showed up for work yesterday.

Anyways, I just hate this political BS I have to wade through pretty much everyday. The good thing is the CP and the DO have my back since this guy was just terminated and has zero credibility. I just hate how since he knows I won't be fired, he has to go to the FAA to try and ruin my career.

So yeah, I know some of you guys were wondering about it on FB but now you know what types of scumbags are out there and will stop at nothing to get more money or ruin people who get in their way.

On a lighter note, my WOFT packet for the army is complete and I'll probably get and interview next month.

Sounds like Guido and Vinny need to go pay this clown a visit. :bandit:

Is it still worth it?

Absolutely.

When it ceases to be so is when the day is that I shut down the website and start showing up at your house to dump your trash every thursday.

I have to agree with Patrick on this one. Its sad that some people just have to be the scum of the earth.

Unfortunately crap like this happens in all aspects of life. Try your best to keep your cool and you'll come out ahead.

Like my captain said to his wife when she wanted to quit her management job:

"Honey, it's called a "job" and not a "fun" for a reason. It's work! You're not supposed to like it!"

I do enjoy my job, but what, 1% of the world actaully truly enjoys what they're doing in able to make the mortgage?

Is it worth it...yes! I'm a flight instructor right now, but I would take this job over any desk job any day. It's all about the QOL for me and flying has allowed me to do some pretty "interesting" things :pirate:

Is flying still worth it? Have you ever done hard physical labor?

I guarantee that ajusting the trim tab is much easier than cleaning fermented wheat and mouse mummies out of a silo.

My prescription, watch 2 episodes of 'Dirty Jobs' and sleep on it.

I want to work at Goldman Sachs and sell bonds of dubious origin to widows and orphans, but I haven't logged enough time doing it.

Is there a PFJ opportunity out there? Perhaps for me to package PFJ loans into CDO's and sell them to airlines, while I short them?

It has its highs and lows.

Glad you learned that bieng the CP's informant isn't necessarily the best role to take to please the CP. Hope it all works out for you in the end.

I got a letter about an improper GUMP check because the props and mixtures never went forward....

...and standing in the arc of the propeller during boarding ("the magnetos could have been on!")

in a Beech 1900.

Why were you doing aerobatics on a 135 flight anyway you maniac? :rotfl: Don't worry about this toolbag, it will blow over and he will be forgotten soon enough.

Ya think there will be less politics and BS in the Army?!

Not by a longshot, unfortunately.
I've never seen anything close to the politics and BS people complain about in the civilian sector while in the Army.

Or maybe it's just a perception thing. You rarely hear Doug or other senior guys with horrible politics/BS stories at work... they probably vent to their friends/spouses. I whined like a little girl when I was pulled out of the cockpit to be the Battalion Logistics Officer while in Iraq - but only to my close friends and certainly not online.
