Is flying still worth it?

It probably depends on the circle, but as far as I've seen up here in JFK, it's fairly apolitical.

Probably the most political thing I've seen in the past six months was the captain made a comedic quip about President Obama's birth certificate, the other FO called the captain an idiot and I told them to drink up and "Hug it out, girls". :)

But overall, in my crowd, it's just not a topic of discussion.

Now UNION politics, oh boy...

We really don't have those issues around my parts...in my base especially. We are a tight knit bunch around these parts!

As we discussed on the phone, there are fun, but legal ways to make this even :)

Patrick, you know that you can call a lawyer easy enough, but getting a lawyer to call you, a pain in the ass. But don't worry, it'll get fun soon enough.

Is flying still worth it? Have you ever done hard physical labor?

I guarantee that ajusting the trim tab is much easier than cleaning fermented wheat and mouse mummies out of a silo.

My prescription, watch 2 episodes of 'Dirty Jobs' and sleep on it.

You know, chasing hogs on a farm or cleaning a kiln seems more fun right now. I just hate how people will back stab, step on toes, and throw you under the bus, just so they can get ahead, more so in aviation than in other professions. Plus people always need bacon, they don't normally need their checks flown around at 200 mph.

Did you sleep with his girlfriend?

This guy has a piss poor attitude that could make the devil jealous. If he did have a girlfriend, do you think I'd want to hit it? Nah.

Ya think there will be less politics and BS in the Army?!

Not by a longshot, unfortunately.

In the military, you don't have to worry about job security and pay cuts. Unless you really mess up or get hurt.

We were at first, then our DO changed our route structure, brought in another pilot which cut our pay a bit. That's when this guy went after the new pilot first, realized he couldn't do anything, so then waited for me to make a mistake, and blew it up.

Anyways, I figured that had I not taken a picture I'd still be in this situation, since clearly this guy has a stick shoved up somewhere. The CP has always liked me, knows what type of pilot I am, and told the feds I would never do anything like this. Hope it works.

Is it still worth it?

Absolutely.

When it ceases to be so is when the day is that I shut down the website and start showing up at your house to dump your trash every thursday.

Hey, you can do that at my apartment complex. You'll get to drive a little golf cart with a chickenwire trailer on the back to collect the bags!

Yeah. Golf cart. You know you want it....

Like my captain said to his wife when she wanted to quit her management job:

"Honey, it's called a "job" and not a "fun" for a reason. It's work! You're not supposed to like it!"

I do enjoy my job, but what, 1% of the world actaully truly enjoys what they're doing in able to make the mortgage?

My buddy from college calls his job a "mortgage compatible time exchange".
:)

No job situation is ever perfect, but it does sound like some pretty shady stuff going on over there.

I didn't start flying right away, so I was out in the job field for a while. To me, there is no "job" I would rather have than flying. Yeah the hours and pay can suck, but I honestly can't stand sitting behind a desk. Even at my last real job where I was a software trainer, when I was onsite teaching I was ok, but if I had an office week, I felt like the clock was moving backwards at times. 8 hours seemed like an eternity. When I am flying, the time really does fly! :)

Hang in there, (queue picture of kitten hanging from a tree).

Thanks Gulley.

An update, I've got an interview coming up with a certain Metroliner operator on Monday so we'll see what happens. Don't get me wrong, I love my company and it's a good QOL, but driving pistons is well, past it's prime for me. As far as the complaint, I'm not sure exactly what is going to happen, but I've been told it may be a non-issue at this point, considering who it's coming from but who knows.

Just remember, karma will bite this guy in the ass in tenfold! Good luck witht he interview and just don't let jerks like that get to you.

You better believe flying is worth it.

I work at a grocery store right now because I am in college and need to finish up my last few certs.

Last Monday I came into work and my manager had a huge pile of rotten potatos for me to sort though and rebag. I don't know how many of you have ever went through rotten potatoes, but it STINKS.

Anybody can play the politics game, just have to be mature about it and you will always beat the morons (as you did in your case).

I don't have a real flying job yet but... I can assure you I will gladly hand over the potato baggin' duties for a yoke!

So, apparently this guy went off the deep in to try and corrupt my name. If I didn't have bigger things to worry about I'd be seeing him in court next month, but check out this email he wrote about me and another co-worker.

This memo was caused by the "Back Stabber" [name] a pilot from [city and state], He regularly flies for [company], A [individual] company located at [Location] Airport. and [my name] another low life working for [company] Airlines. They were trying to get a pilot FIRED with more seniority so they could save their jobs. Which by the way these two pilots take passengers on a regular basis. Just last week [my name] took a passenger, an employee from [company] And was doing a Formation Takeoff (Acrobatic flight at 0300 in the morning) from the [location] airport on the FAA part 135 Flight. The aircraft that took off first was not aware of this stunt performed by [my name]. Just ask the ramper at [company] for more details.

I request that you spread the word about these two pilots because they are unsafe and are out to destroy others careers to better themselves. BACK STABBERS!

[name] has been fired by two aviation companies in the past, [company] and [company]. I expect that there will be more in his future, because I don't see any signes of this punk growing-up.

Thanks!

Sorry if it's confusing, I had to remove as much as I could to protect the people and companies not involved.

Of course it's not true, but seriously, if you are going to stoop to this level of insecurity and unprofessionalism, at least have the balls to do it to our faces instead of going behind my back, like I apparently did to him.

Also this is the same guy that tried to get me fired back in January, when I apparently walked off the job and got a hooker that night. :rotfl: So who's really trying to get who fired?

I just know that karma is a bitch... am I allowed to say that on here?

Is flying still worth it?
Duh... of course.

Is it filled with the same BS the rest of the workforce deals with?
Duh... of course.

Things are changing/moving in a positive direction, and I bet that once you've moved on you will feel a renewed enjoyment and excitement every time you hear "positive rate"...

Just got called for a trip. so you've been spared the rest of my "chin up, frown upside down" speech.
Dude... it's totally worth it:rawk:

See ya on the road again i hope,
Fred

Wow! If this happened to me I would print it out and confront the guy face to face. Just be sure to confront him away from the workplace, incase it comes to blows.
