Ipad mini 4 Foreflight performance?

All,
Unfortunately, Apple decided this week not to upgrade their iPad mini to a new chip. My question to everybody using iPad mini 4's, how is the performance of Foreflight on it? Is it starting to run sluggish at all with new OS and Foreflight updates? Any idea with the new features that Foreflight keeps adding if it can run those features?

I am debating between an iPad regular size but newer processor vs the iPad mini 4. The Mini is obviously better suited to a general aviation environment and as a kneeboard-type plate. The regular size iPad is better for screen-size, but harder to manage in a Piper or Cessna for CFI type duties.

I have an iPad Mini 3 - a generation (or two) older and it runs FF just fine with the most current OS and updates.

Maybe it's just my eyes getting older (I have to have readers now in the cockpit) but my next iPad will be an iPad Pro. The size of the mini is nice, but I would like a little more screen real estate.
 
I'm still on the original ipad mini. I've used it daily for years plugged in to the charger in the cockpit. It can get laggy if I have a lot of weather layers and traffic but it does a good enough job. I'm sure the 4 will run great.

This. My 1st gen Mini runs FF, GP & FltPlan Go ok. It starts to breathe hard with more layers or when I ask it for optimum altitude calculations, but generates the answer eventually.
 
Using the mini 4 (64 Gig) currently and I've had no issues. Every once in a while it'll be sluggish going from one tab to another on the bottom but I do have a lot of documents loaded in foreflight so it might just be getting full.
 
For someone getting ready to begin flight training in a few months, would you guys recommend the iPad air 2 or the mini 4? They are both comparable in price but does one perform better?

Get the Mini, its tough to fumble around with the bigger iPads with the limited space in the cockpit. I have the iPad Mini 2 and it has worked like a charm for years. I use it with FF and the Stratus 2. Best purchase I have ever made. I have never had any issues whatsoever.
 
Wanted to re-visit this thread...

The last two iOS updates have really caused my Mini to start getting sluggish with respect to FF. Also, I'm finding that my eyes like the screen size of the larger iPads.

So. That being said - does it make sense to go the iPad Pro route or look for a late-model iPad Air 2? The pro has the larger processor but not sure it's worth it?

I think the pro is worth it. The 4 speakers alone is cool, I can listen to streaming music and not be completely offended. Better screen (watch it though, you break it, it is much more $$ to fix!), and faster processor all worthy of the $100 (in my case flightsafety) upgrade.

Mine was too up until the last two IOS updates. Then, FF started getting slow, especially when I had both WX and Traffic from the 2S on the screen. FIgured it was time.
 
I'm running the latest iOS and ForeFlight versions on the mini 4 and haven't noticed any performance issues. Then again, I'm not a power user and just very recently starting using traffic on it via the Scout.
 
My mini 2 runs Foreflight and Jepp without any issues. I'll be upgrading to the pro soonish.
