Ipad mini 4 Foreflight performance?

I really like it. Super easy to set up too. It even works at my apartment, but doesn't "see" 360 degrees there. I was considering the Stratus 1S, but the Scout fit my limited budget much better.

Hows the weather? We use a stratus in the Learjet for long distance weather radar analysis. The ADS-B In is a nice feature to see others that are flying along the same route in the weather, but otherwise its not necessary.

I use the Mini 4 and it works great. I've tried the iPad Pro 9.7 and it's too large (IMO) in GA cockpits. 4 or 5 hours of operation and still typically have >50% battery

I went to the Apple store to look at the ipad mini. Price-wise the standard size ipad is only $20.00 more than the mini and has a faster processor.

They're really not doing much to update mini anymore, but if you're comparing it to the standard iPad, it does have a far better display. The mini 4 display is laminated, so its very close to the glass, and is nicer to view, where the standard full size iPad is not and doesn't look as nice. You need to bump up to the iPad pro to get a killer full size screen.
The standard iPad does have the a9 chip, so it will be a little more future proof when it comes to speed. It sounds like foreflight works fine on the mini at the moment, so who knows when that will matter.

Wanted to re-visit this thread...

The last two iOS updates have really caused my Mini to start getting sluggish with respect to FF. Also, I'm finding that my eyes like the screen size of the larger iPads.

So. That being said - does it make sense to go the iPad Pro route or look for a late-model iPad Air 2? The pro has the larger processor but not sure it's worth it?

Both my mini 2 and my iPad 4 have slowed down significantly with the latest iOS updates. I just did a factory reset on my 4 and that helped, but it's not like it used to be.

Yeah, and I'm really curious about what IOS 11 is going to do with the older processors.

I really like iPads - I use them for a lot of things besides aviation, but the prices keep getting steeper. I figure if I run a generation behind and buy used, I can offset some of that cost.

What's REALLY driving this, though, is that I just need the larger, brighter screen. My middle-aged eyes require reading glasses in the cockpit now and that mini was getting hard to read sometimes.
