Interesting day at glider airport.

Was flying gliders today at my club airport and we hear over the radio "wellington traffic sedan out of gas deadsticking into your airport". Turns out this guy went to a EAA fly in, in Toledo and said he didnt get gas because he heard the guy who they had to contact for gas wasnt nice. Then knowing he was low on fuel decided to past at least 3 other airports to try and make it home. Well he didnt make it home. Luckily he landed safetly at our grass airport and even though we dont sell gas we gave him some for a donation to our club. (we cant legally sell him it) Long story short this guy was the example of what not to due. He made every wrong choice during the day, not getting gas before he left and pushing it when he knew he was critcally low on the fuel. Better yet this guy was very defensive when asked why he didnt get fuel, even making the comment you guys dont fly things with engines so you wouldnt understand. What he didnt know was just about everyone there flies powered airplanes as well. Ok rant over.
 
You say, "That's right, English! We don't know about engines. That's why the only way your rig is leaving this field is with a rope attached to the front or securing it to a trailer ... a horse-drawn one!" ;)
 
With the way this guy acted he almost didnt get gas from us. Half way through the conversation he made the comment that his plane could fly on autogas. So a few of us were thinking we should make him walk to the gas station with a gas can to get gas and walk back. Maybe then he will have some rational thoughts going through his head. Side note though his airplane was beautiful.
 
Meh. Everyone (except for me) has done something dumb in a plane. I'm glad he made it to the field, and I'm glad y'all were kind enough to help him out, attitude and all. I'd be real surprised if he does it again.

Yeah, but passing up getting necessary fuel because the dude selling it was rumored to be annoying?

I guess I was responding more to the "some people should have their licenses pulled". Yeah, obviously it's stupid. I've been accused (falsely, of course) of being stupid once or twice. There but for the grace of the imaginary guy in the sky, etc etc.

People can be as rude and anoying as the want when they are pumping my gas because at the end of the day, they are pumping MY gas, and I'm going flying. :tease:
 
I flew under the class C shelf without requesting flight following... while hitting on a fat woman. I should have my certificates pulled.

I was kind of shocked at the pump today when I discovered I only had about 3 gallons usable in each tank. (at a different gliderport).

Im not saying things dont happen. But its was his attitude that bothered me. If you make a mistake fine just admitt it. Dont bash the very people who your asking for help. And dont assume that because I happen to be flying gliders that day that I dont also fly powered airplanes. It was that attitude that made me mad not his low fuel situation.

Yeah! but for the fat chick part, not the C shelf.

I wondor if his ASR is going to read, "I know I needed fuel, but the fuel man is a big meanie."
 
I find it very ironic that he did a deadstick into a gliderport. Maybe he was just trying to fit in? :laff:

In the Pawnee??? It is scary how easily that can happen in the Pawnee with its wonderfully accurate fuel gauge that can show a half tank on the ground, but somehow end up at an eighth tank as you are climbing out.
