Insurance ?'s

So the company I may be flying for here in the near future is having problems justifying spending the cost on me to train in the airplane (414). So I've figured that I was just SOL on the whole deal. Anyway my student (the PIC) called me and told me he was really trying hard to get me into the airplane. He told me he talked to the owner and this was the best he could do. They are figuring I need 25 in type plus an initial course to fly this badmamajama so they want me to fly around with an insured PIC and log flight time. Once I hit 25 PIC in the airplane they would then send me to initial and I would become an insured pilot. Anyone see any problems w/ this?

Thanks,

So, to legally log the time you'd either have to be under the hood (hint hint) or acting as PIC and flying.

You can act as PIC since you don't need a type, but if you toss a tire on takeoff and end up taking out a runway light.....who's going to pay for it? It won't be insurance.

See this is what I'm talking about. I'm assuming if that was the case I was never flying the airplane. Legit or not idk.

What I can tell though I can log PIC and act PIC in the Fed's eyes just not in insurances eyes.

Yes, but when they ask "who was PIC"? If...

...you say "me". Insurance says "Okay...seeya".

...if he says "me". FAA says "but you have all of this flight time, sir."

Find a view limiting device.

Just out of curiousity how is your student the PIC of a C414?

You can LOG PIC by being the Sole manipulator gaining your PIC hours.

The other guy ACT's PIC for Insurance reasons, He will not be able to log it unless he is an ATP rated pilot

It can be sticky if something happens (Murphy, etc).

Go with the hood, but also make sure you have your high altitude endorsement beforehand. Even the short-nosed early 70s' 414 were certified to 30,100 ft.

Since he is already your student how about logging the time as PIC and Instruction Given? In the eyes of the FAA you are qualified to fly the plane and on the insurance side he would still be PIC. Just an idea and not sure it is correct.

So the question is: 25 in type or 25 PIC? There could be a pretty big difference there - splitting hairs maybe, but all the same it could be a matter of wording.
