Is Alpha Eta Rho a secret fraternity? I'm a Lambda Chi Alpha, and its a secret fraternity, but I know AHP is aviation based and I was just wondering if it had an actual secret initiation. Just curious.

[/ QUOTE ]

Nope, nothing secret at all.... at least not in my chapter. We actually stay away from any kind of rituals or initiations since we want to have a professional image.

[/ QUOTE ]

I don't want to start a flame war, but I do want to defend myself as a Lambda Chi and having a secret ritual/initiation. Our fraternity is based on Christian principles, as are most greek houses. I don't see how that could effect professionalism at all. Here are some facts to think about...

Nationally, 71% of all Greeks graduate, while only 50% of non-Greeks graduate.

The All Greek GPA is higher than the overall collegiate GPA

Since 1910, 85% of the Supreme Court Justices have been Greek.

85% of the Fortune 500 key executives are Greek.

Of the nation's 50 largest corporations, 43 are headed by Greeks.

76% of Who's Who in America are Greek.

All but two Presidents since 1825 have been Greek.

70% of the U.S. Presidents' cabinet members since 1900 have been Greek.

76% of U.S. Senators are Greek.

Both women elected to the U.S. Supreme Court were sorority members.

Over 85% of the student leaders on 730 campuses are members of Greek-letter organizations.

Less then 2% of an average college students expenses go towards Greek membership dues.

I can't promise that all of those statistics are accurate, but I do know that Greek ritials have no effect on professionalism.

I do know that these figure are correct from my school.
All-Undergraduate Women's GPA: 3.058
All-Sorority GPA: 3.183

All-Undergraduate Men's GPA: 2.773
All-Fraternity GPA: 2.912

But 100% of "greeks" buy their friends

Just a question...those stats say nothing about whether or not the greek life includes the honor societies, or service frats. I was in Alpha Phi Omega...a purely service co -ed frat, and things like that and honor societies woudl definitely boost average gpa.

If I had a dollar for everytime I heard that.

Going greek was the best decision I have made since being here. Yes, I pay dues, but that has nothing to do with whether or not I have friends. Even if I left the fraternity I would still remain friends with everyone in the house. While making lifelong friendships is very much a part of brother/sisterhood, an irrevokable bond is also formed between yourself and hundreds of thousands of others around the country that have taken the same oath of initiation you have. It's a source of pride that cannot be explained unless you have experienced it.

So to sum it up, don't knock it till ya try it.

I paid for my brotherhood with alot of blood, sweat and tears. Brotherhood goes alot farther than an oath and a ritual!

[/ QUOTE ]But as a non-Greek, I can tell you with absolute certainty that there has never been a woman elected to the U.S. Supreme Court. Never been a man, either.

Very true, should have cleared that up, greek life is just one small dimension of what brotherhood really is. It extends a lot farther than just greeks. One thing is for sure though, once you have experienced any form of brotherhood it's a life changing experience.

Appreciate your service Lloyd!

[/ QUOTE ]

Yes I did buy my friends by going greek, but if you divide my dues by amount of friends I bought, then I've got some pretty cheap friends

Those statistics are no accurate - the reality is the Greek system attracts those type of people who are enthused with college and are attending college to accomplish something, those who really do not care about academics, college also do not care about Greek Life. If you took those people who are in Greek Life out of it they would perform equally as well.

I thought the Greek system attracted the biggest drunks and partiers? Now the Greek system is the smart kid club? I must have missed the memo...

I'm just kidding, but you have to love stereotypes.

Im not knocking anyone's rituals or practices. All I'm saying is in my chapter, we did not see it neccesary.
