ImagineAir, anybody fly for them?

Have no idea how they are profitable.

I'm not sure what the hourly operating cost is on a cirrus, but if you run a "special" at 600 an hour, it seems like you should be able to make a profit. They might charge enough to make up for low volume, IDK. We charge 395 I think, for a 210, but it goes up to like 600 something for a 185 straight float, and almost 1000 for the beaver. Yeah, there are places in AK that have beavers for around 600, but they fly a lot more with a lot of competition. Our 210 check contracts went away almost a year ago, and I think we haven't missed them a bit. Once it was all said and done, we prolly didn't make enough money to justify having them.

Open Air Charters in Gaithersburg, MD. Open Air also flies the SR-22 doing passenger charters, and an occasional hazmat flight for Airnet. They mostly fly the mid atlantic and the Northeast. Imagine Air pretty much has a lock on the Southeast as far as passenger charters in the Cirrus. Here is a link to Open Air's website: http://www.flyopenair.com

I flew for Open AIr for a month before my ex and I split up and I moved back to Oklahoma. Nice guys there.

How do they even fly up north at all during the winter months if it's IFR? Seems like it'd be pretty tough to do 135 like that unless they're running the FIKI models.

Some of their planes are FIKI model SR-22s. I made many trips up to TEB, PVD, and BGR in the winter months. You have to be smart about planning your flights, but most of the time it is doable in a FIKI SR-22. If it is going to be IMC, take some extra TKS fluid with you.

How will Open and Imagine fare any better than SATS? Honest question, not flamebait.

Did SATS operate under a different business model? Was the management too greedy with profit margins? What was the downfall, and how can the new guys avoid it?

Might be good insight for anyone looking into applying.

Wow, this thread rose from the dead. I interviewed with ImagineAir back in February. Got turned down, but God had better plans for me and I shortly after got hired in Juneau, AK flying The Big Six with Roger Roger.

I asked about SATS Air when I interviewed and most of the guys said it was because they had too big of a fleet and overextended themselves.

The folks at Open Air are very nice, and the pilots are all very experienced. I think that all the pilots that work there have no less than 4,000 hours, and some much more than that. Their operation is nowhere near the size that SATS Air had, but they have some loyal customers that use them repeatedly. Definitely a good group of people to work with.

I work for ImagineAir. We are doing quite well I'd say, and it's a great company. We have a lot of really great people here. We just added another Cirrus to our fleet, and will be adding a brand new G5 series in the fall. We are currently looking for 2 or 3 more pilots as well. PM me if you have any more detailed questions about the company.

When is your interview date?

Do you still work for ImagineAir? I have an interview on the 14th and would live to talk to someone who works there. I'd appreciate any info you might have. Thanks.

I do indeed still work for ImagineAir. I really like this place a lot. PM me with any specific questions you may have. I'm on vacation right now, but get back to Atlanta tomorrow.

Does anyone have any updated info. about ImagineAir, such as how many are they planning on hiring, or when their next class is? They are posting a lot on WillFlyForFood and Climbto350 about openings in the south and the northeast. I'd love to work there and any info. would be great. Thanks

Did you guys every get the Gulfstream? That would get you into and out of LZU much quicker...

We never had plans to buy any Gulfstreams. When I said "G5" earlier in this thread, I was referring to the Cirrus SR22 Generation 5, which is the newest model of the SR22. When our company first started, we actually did have deposits on 3 Eclipse Jets, but that fell through after Eclipse Aerospace went bust.
