rip the next pilots ear off if I see them walking around the terminal with a bluetooth in their ear. I think its pretty darn unprofessional. Like it or not we are there in the terminal to answer passengers questions (yes, yes, yes it is VERY annoying, but still I see it as part of the job!) and having that bluetooth just makes you look stupid!

END RANT

Sorry if I offend anyone here!

Where does it say that? I checked my manuals and contract but did not see it anywhere. It is a courtesy that you/we may provide but it is not my job to walk around with an "answers here" sign. If somebody wants to ask a question they can and I will surely go out of my way to help but it is not my job, that is the job of those people that "work" the airport info booths but they are usually volunteers.

If I need to make a phone call during a turn, you can believe I'm not going to go run to a corner so a passenger does not see me talking on my phone. I'm not on the clock when I'm in the terminal anyway, so why can't I use my phone? I'm paid block in to block out. That being said, no I don't own one of those things and I will try to help out whenever possible but come on...

I think there are plenty of unprofessional things pilots do and we all look bad because of it (no hats, wrinkled or dirty uni's, etc.) but I don't think this is one of them.

Very good points, however like it or not we are in the customer service business. Part of the deal, people see us, they expect us to help them with what they need or a question they need answered. I am always talking on my phone on breaks, in the terminal, but having a bluetooth I think just looks like a very unprofessional image, of course with the others as mentioned above.

This isnt the militray. If a customer has a problem with a pilot talking on the phone while they jabber away and run up to the gate every time the agent gets near the microphone then srew em.

What? Why the hell would it matter whether you hear the person on the other end through a bluetooth, hands free plug-in, or the actual phone? Seriously..

I don't really see the difference in Bluetooth and talking on a regular phone in the terminal. If I need to call crew sked or someone else I'm not going to hike off where I can't be seen.

Now if you're talking about how stupid people look walking around talking on those things, I'm with you. It seems like they're talking to themselves.

Hey FOSHIZZLE, you work for PSA?

I have to agree with Seggy, like it or not we're in a service business. The passengers don't know (or care) that we only get paid block in to block out (if we're lucky in some cases....), they only see a person in an airline uniform that might be able to answer their question. If that person is rude to them or treats them like they don't matter, they'll just fly someone else next time. Do that enough times, and when you look up you're furloughed because some other airline "stole" your flying. IMO, this is especially critical at the regional level where the routes play musical chairs so often.

I don't have a problem with people being on the phone in the terminal, especially if it's to talk to screw scheduling or something to do with work. Heck, call your family while you've got a minute. That being said, if a passenger came up to me with a question, I would take the time (about 10-15 seconds) to answer it.

As far as the bluetooth things go, the look like reject Star Trek props, and you'll never catch me wearing one. :)

To each his own. Some people love the bluetooth. I have never personally tried it but know people who swear by it. Either way, who cares what you talk through when you are on you cell phone?

Hey.. a peanut [crunch]

I HATE THOSE BLUETOOTH THINGS TOO. They make people look like ebonic rabbits. Those people must be very important when they don't have the time to reach and pick up their phone!

I have a bluetooth and only use it while driving. It works pretty well for that purpose. As far as the morons (airline and regular people, alike) that walk around theme parks, malls, airports, etc. with the stupid thing in...well, they're idiots wanting to look important. Go someplace private where I don't have to listen to your call and do whatever you want.

Ebonic rabbits? LOL . . .

Those people must be very important when they don't have the time to reach and pick up their phone!

I remember when people used to say that about cell phones ("You're not so important that you have to carry the phone with you . . . " - My Dad) - now everybody has one. ;) New doesn't equal bad.

Good point... I think its just the fact that its sitting in their ear all of the time with that bright blue light that gets me. Then when they get a call it looks like their talking to themselves.

A 17 year old was wearing one of those things walking into church a while back. I told him he should take it out.

Personally, outside of driving, I can see no good use for those things and they look silly. Plus, you look silly talking to yourself.

Gawd I'm getting old....
