I used to put my caller on hold to answer a stupid question from a random passenger who decided to interrupt my phone call because they cannot read signs in the airport.
Then I realized that is a rude thing to do to the person with whom I am talking. It's the exact reason why I no longer answer call waiting.
If people in the airport cannot find someone who is NOT on the phone, that's not my problem. I had a guy in ORD a few weeks back grab my arm while I'm talking to my Dad on the phone. I wheeled around, glared at him, and said "I'm on the phone!" Sure, we are customer service in a way, and if I'm not on a call, I'm more than happy to say "Yes, your gate is right behind you." However, if these folks cannot (a) read airport signs; (b) learn the difficult task of reading TV screens in plain English; (c) see that I'm not available and kindly go find someone who is, then it's not my problem. If they can be rude, so can I.
Now, if the rude person in question happens to be one who obviously is not from the States and has trouble with the English language, I will stop everything and help them. I would expect the same if I was in their shoes.
When my bluetooth headset gets fixed, I will wear it ... ONLY when I'm actually talking to someone. All other times it'll be in my pocket.
Just my opinion. Ya'll do what you like.
