I wish this were just a rumor

Yeah, I just found out yesterday. I just got off the phone with marketing and they said more info would be available after the 1st of the year. All I know is that if they dismantle the school I'm going to sue the crap out of them for breech of contract. I've dumped so much cash into the program I can't afford to stop now. I'm midway through instrument with about 5 months to go till i'm through with the AATP program. #####!

No but see you can stop dumping money into it NOW....

 We tried to tell ya in that thread a few weeks ago about how much money you were wasting by dumping it into them. It sucks learning things the hard way, but hopefully you get your money back.....Id go back and re read some of the things you posted and see how you feel now....Seems like the "old grumpy jerks who just hate big academies" might just be right...

I see what you're saying, but this really is a great school otherwise. Countless people have started their careers from this place. I know a lot of people don't agree with the "academy way" but for some people it works. I don't mind spending the money knowing I have a job waiting for me when I'm done. I mean my good friend just finished like 3 weeks ago and is now at ASA learning the CRJ-700 as we speak. I know he doesn't think it was a waste of money. Really though, I just hope they don't shut the school down but who knows. Merry f-ing Christmas Flight Safety.

I don't think GTI will shut down the school. This might be a good thing....we might get funding for #### we really need! Who knows, we might get a new fleet of aircraft....everyone knows that FSA NEEDS new cadets!

There are "pros-and-cons" to everything in life. I guess I will "ride-the-wave" and see what I find after I come back from the Holidays.

I am not surprised at all that FSI sold off FSA. To those that are currently enrolled, I doubt the new ownership will take your money and run. They purchased the company with the intent of running it more efficiently to turn a profit, and that does not mean stealing your money.

Good luck to all that are involved with this fiasco.

Well this is a sad time.

I have now changed my plans, luckily I had not given them any money yet, im just pleased its happened now rather than in a few months when i was going to sign up. Its a real shame I was really looking forward to going there, its the best flight school I have ever visited. Guess ill be sticking to training in the UK :(

Good luck to everybody there now, im sure it will be all fine for you, I just cant see it being as good for UK students, due to the link to FSI now being gone.

Merry Christmas

GTI might still keep the school in good health.

I'll keep you posted as I currently work there still.

However, some of the "higher" paid employees of the old FSA might be looking elsewhere. Keep in mind this is speculation and anything could happen.

However, I do not the Academy is closing its doors. Only changing its name.

I will let you know in a few months.

Before anybody makes any decisions about whether or not to continue training at FSA, there is something you should know. GTI signed a letter of intent to purchase the academy. That is all it is as of now, an intent. The academy has not been sold yet. It will likely take months for this purchase to be finalized. So those of you who are in the middle of your training, keep plugging away.

I have been out of town for the holiday, and haven't really heard anything past the initial rumors of what's going to happen. I'm very curious about how this will affect current empoyees as well as students. What impact it will have on the relationship between the Academy and the FlightSafety sim centers. Will that internship relationship completely disolve? I was kind of looking forward to perhaps being involved in that program one day.

Also as a contract instructor with the SAT program, what impact will this have on our contract programs. We have a few that make up a large percentage of total student volume.

i have been considering fsa and have contacted them recently for more info so i was suprised to find this info out..according the marketing people there, gti is a private equity firm that apparently likes aviation related companies in addition to other ventures. The CEO is a former CEO of Sony America and according to their site, the CEO of Google is on their board. I hope they retain some some of the programs that flightsafety has such as the business jet direct program (maybe via some sort of licensing agreement/partnership?) because that was a strong selling point to me. I googled their site on the net-http://www.gti-llc.com. any updates on what is happening?

Any updates on the buyout yet?

I see that FSA have updated their website for the new year with new .pdf docs etc. But still no reference to anyone other than FSI ...

Right now, GTI is gathering information on the academy and will have a decision soon. Time frame is around the end of February beginning March 2008. GTI wants to invest a great deal of money into the academy to obtain new business local and abroad. They also are considering the following:

1. implementing helicopter training
2. new fleet of airplanes with glass cockpits
3. FSA employees keep benefits
4. buy FSA contracts from FSI
5. Bid for FIT in Melbourne
6. New name : Flight Academy International
(formerly FlightSafety Academy)

GTI wants the flight academy only, not the Sim department located on the campus. Therefore, the Sim department will still be part of FSI.

Overall, I think this is what the academy has been needing for a long time...much needed funds and new airplanes! FSA has been the "red headed step child" of FSI for far too long....and the academy, airplanes, buildings show that "image." I'm optimistic!!
