I met Sully yesterday on the IAH terminal train

You didn't back up anything either

You're so right.

I've been whipped by Ahmed.

Who are you again?

I never said that anything needed to be backed up in this case.

Nevermind, I don't know you. Not worth my time. Catch me in a few years.

I heard him on the radio the other day when I was flying. Atlanta Center I think. He has one of those voices that you can recognize right away.

Maybe I'm the one thats out of the loop but a member who is having a bad day is lashing out at others on the forum and nobody sees a problem with it?

Ahmed, perhaps you don't know me. I haven't had a bad day in a lonnnngggg time. And, a lot of the users on the forum that have been around for several years know me. Some like me, and some hate me, and some could care less. But, they'll all probably agree that I don't really have bad days. A day is a day. At least I'm consistent. And, I have been for a lot of years.

I didn't lash out at anybody on the forum. If anybody feels lashed out at, let me know what I did to hurt your feelings, and I will sincerely apologize.

I am reading his book and it is a good read.
Those character traits are apparent in the book too.

I made it through his book over the course of three days. It was a great read and a wonderful insight into his personality. I'd love to shake that mans hand.

I don't like to bother celebrities either. I feel that the last thing they want is another stranger bothering them. I am an introvert anyway so it is against my nature to really approach anyone and just start chating.

Eh, they need their egos stroked. Thats why most of them got into the buisness in the first place.

I say take a different approach. You should ask for as many autographs on stupid items as possible.

They are not anything special.

I saw Doug Taylor the other night at about 2am. It was just him and Kristie. I wanted to say hi, but to do so would have undoubtably been a felony. As I was peering in their window, and the bobcat from the near by mountain was clearly making his presense known.

Didn't appear that you lashed out at anyone to me. I just called your original post rediculous...nothin' personal. Everybody is so sensitive these days :)

Tell me about it...ridiculous doesn't have an "e" in it.

This site is about social networking. Everytime you post it is a reflection on not only you, but the site as well. And, personally I know that I wouldn't recommend anyone that I see post on here who dare misspells a word in a post. If you keep it up Cav, you'll never get a job in this industry because everybody will judge you from your post, and not your personality or aviating prowess!

I didn't take anything personally! That's why I don't see why people get all bent out of shape!

If I'm sitting at the bar with a bunch of friends, and I say something that my friend doesn't like, he is more than welcomed to reply with "Lloyd, you're an •". I won't be offended. We're all adults!

I said something that you didn't dig, and you let me know that. That's what men do!

Ain't no thing to me!

I've really got to get that book, heard good things about it.

I gave my dad (former pilot) that book for Christmas and he finished it in less than 24 hours and gave it to me so I could read it. The gift that keeps on giving!

I'm glad I read it because before their first flight, many new students jokingly ask if I was trained by Sully. They also usually ask whether his glider training helped him, which I guess was in lots of news articles. Sully specifically says in the book he doesn't think his glider training was a very big factor on 1549.

Just don't spill my beer that really pisses me off.

I saw the man in the terminal in SFO when he was on his way home after the Superbowl. I was standing at the gate counter when he got off the plane. I was a little surprised that he walked about 5 feet away from me but didn't even glance my way, even though I was in uniform and a fellow USAir pilot. I figured it was probably because he was tired and just focused on getting home. I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt that it had nothing to do with the fact I am with the America West half of the company.

As an fellow airline pilot I have respect for him even if he didn't land a crippled plane in the river. As a fellow USAir employee, regardless of which side of the Mississippi he's from, I would be pleasant and courteous to him. His distinguished former military record is enviable and I think service to one's country as about the most honorable thing a person can do. I also think, as a professional pilot he has brought a little dignity to this industry that has been riddled with stories of professional failures such as showing up at the airport intoxicated, improper identification of a stall and subsequent improper recovery which led to the loss of the aircraft and the death of all on board, just to name a few. Aviation desperately needed the "feel good" story he delivered. Also, he has used his "star power" to lobby for some much needed improvements with politicians who like to be seen with a man of his caliber. For these reasons, I have the utmost respect for him as a professional.

But...
Then he showed up in court in Phoenix last Spring and basically said the entire America West pilot group didn't have any integrity. He said the federally arbitrated seniority plan for integrating the pilots also lacked integrity. Either he tried, or allowed the newly created union that represented East and ONLY East USAir pilots, to use his star power to try to convince a jury that the "rookies" at America West had no right to "steal" the jobs of the highly experienced USAir pilots, regardless of what a federal Arbiter said. As a person, I think the man is a piece of crap.

Let's recap. As a professional, I have the utmost respect for the man. As a person, I wouldn't urinate on him if he was on fire.

Let the flaming begin.

that's funny. I like the binding arbitration for dummies icon. Reminds me of a joke I heard when I was at Airways.

Three pilots, one from AA, one from UAL, and one from USAir are standing around talking about retirement.

The AA pilot says, "On my last day before retirement i'm going to buzz headquarters"

The UAL pilot says, "Me too, I'm going to rattle the windows of the CEO's office"

The USAir pilot says, "yeah, I'm going to fly 10 feet over the top of the crystal palace!"

The other two pilots looked incredulously at the USAir pilot and say, "Do you think the Captain will let you??"

ah well. The "west vs. east" garbage is just one of the reasons i'm glad I didn't go back to Airways when the recall finally came.

On topic, I met Sully a few months ago when he came to speak to our flight department. He was cordial and friendly and even sought me out as a former USAir pilot. He spoke to us for about 30 minutes answering questions. We flew him home and he refused to let another pilot carry his luggage or cater to him.

He sold me. An hour later I was standing in line to pick up his book and have it autographed.

I agree he's done more for the profession than anyone has in a long time.

Max...Please for me...
