I love teh 1900

Damn Seggs!! You beat me to the questions!! I would have had to look some of those up, initial isn't THAT detailed!! :D But thats good you're studying for upgrade now. I might be calling you this week to pick your FO brain skillz for the sim. :)

I got a question though!!

Its a cold day in the winter, 10deg C, sunny, clear and calm wind. Uncontaminated runway.
Why would we take off with the Ice Vains extended?

Aroo?

10 C is like 50 F, hardly a "cold" day in the winter. Heck that's shorts weather where I come from.

Anyway what the heck is an ice vain?

It is not for ice.

It is for FOD that MIGHT be on the runway. Don't want to ingest it into the mighty PT6.

Ice Vain - Engine Anti Ice.

Seggs,

I got asked that question by Billy. Correct answer - To properly ARM the autofeather. Because autofeather arming is based on PL position, on a very cold day there is a possibility that the engine could reach 3950ft lbs before reaching the AFX arm position. By using the Eng Anti Ice, you reduce the power output to allow the PL's to advance far enough to arm AFX.

I got that question wrong when Billy asked me. He was trying to stump me in class, because his questions were too easy. He got me on that one, I said to prevent stuff from getting in the engine too - I got schooled! I'm sure you will to when you go for upgrade!! :laff: Billy is awesome, that guy knows sooo much about that airplane and he's a great instructor. He's been giving Cory and Ben? hell in the sim the last few days. :D

Dang you newbies, if you want to try to stump me give me the right info! SOME captains do leave them on during takeoff if they think a runway is contaminated with a lot of FOD. This happens in the sea towns such as RKD, MVY, HYA, ACK and BHB when there might be a lot of shells on the runway, from the birds trying to break them on the runway during the summer.

Yeah Billy is a great guy, flew with him up in the ALB town. Glad he is giving the two red heads a tough time. They deserve it! I am next though! :)

Well, like tha Amazing Pilot said, just bring your :D and you'll be okay! :laff:

It is overwhelming to see how much info you guys have to know. And I thought studying for my core college classes are already a pain.

We had a 'typical' easy day in the Beech today

Today we blocked 5.2 went from ALB-BOS-ISP-BOS-ALB.

NOAA should have hired us as hurricane hunters with the low pressure of the shore. It was fun flying through a Nor'easter especially when you are showing a ground speed of 140 knots from BOS-ISP.

ISP said we were the first plane to arrive in two hours and they asked for a ride report as Southwest reported severe turbulence below 1000 two hours before and the weather has gotten worse since we arrived.

4 ILS approaches today.

Had five people puke.

moderate to severe turbulence sigmets all around.

And we were on time the whole day, actually got into ALB early.

LONG LIVE THE BEECH!

:)

It's a lot. I haven't worked this hard in over a decade in 767 school. it's literally wake up, study, eat, fly, eat, study sleep, rinse, repeat.

Ground school is hard and there is NO spoonfeeding. You've got to more or less show up ready for the company oral and you're not really "learning" in the sim, you're putting physical motions to procedures that need to already be solid in your brain before showing up for the training event.

And that my friend, is EXACTLY why I want to fly the mighty 1900.:D

Only 5 people Segs? what is wrong with you? You can do better, I want the entire airplane to toss their lunch!!!!

Big Sky is a bunch of pansies....They parked their airplane up here at 300 pm and cancelled their next two turns down and back. That's it i'm only working for Colgan now.

I know the feeling! I'm getting ready to learn my first new jet in 7 years, and I'm pretty sure the number at the beginning of my age is higher than yours! ;) Here's hoping my "Oldtimers" hasn't kicked in yet!

Thats why you always see folks on here fussin' about you youngins' getting that college education.:)

Here's a few more...

1. How many degrees is the ACM designed to lower the ambient temperature?

2. Under what operational conditions/configuration is it considered normal to have a BLEED AIR FAIL annunciator illuminate?

3. What is a "gang" drain and where is it located?

4. I did it by accident, but does anyone know the switchology to get into the EFIS diagnostic menu??

My problem is that I went from a world where I did EVERYTHING to a world where I don't do a heck of a lot, but when it's time to do stuff, it's like pulling teeth mentally.

The hydraulic panel and the lighting panel is all captain's work! :)

"John... Psst, turn the lights on"

"N1/EPR!"

"Huh? Oh, oh yeah, uhh, how's that look?"

"Good! 80 knots, throttle hold... engine instruments checked..."

"On the seven three..."

"Yeah, I know, V1...VR...V2"

4. I did it by accident, but does anyone know the switchology to get into the EFIS diagnostic menu??

Someone threw me into diagnostic mode when I wasn't looking and dared me to fly digitally.

Nice... What a pal!

I wonder what ever happened to that guy...

No no no no no....not when you're the one that has to clean the airplane!!! :rotfl:

And you're just getting a small taste!! Sit in indoc for two weeks and get all of the regs and company ops washed down your throat. Then for us it was 2 weeks of systems, where you literally covered 2-3 systems a DAY and kept moving on. Keeping up to that point wasn't too bad, because I have a slight engineering backround, system operation just comes a little easier to me.

THEN you show up for the first day of CPT the day before sims, and the CPT instructor starts asking you your flows and callouts/procedures! I think combined my class knew 2! Not good!! I'm still on system overload from systems class!! Today I feel like I just jumped back into the water, gotta swim or sink. :insane: So far new hire training is a LOT harder then I thought it was going to be. A LOT harder. Really makes me wish I was CFI'ing for another year, maybe it would have made this process easier. But I'm swamped up to my eye balls with IFR procedures - flows - checklists - callouts - Memory items - First Flight of Day checks - cockpit scan etc. etc. etc. Tomorrow will be my first day in the box...I'm praying the sim instructor goes easy on us! :banghead: I'm sure I'll get through it, I feel like my aviation backround combined with my military backround will really help out when things start hitting the fan in the sim, but right now I just feel a bit overwhelmed. :(
