How would one lock in a CRJ?

[ QUOTE ]
It's all about building as much turbine time as possible IMO.

[/ QUOTE ]

You do realize that the Brazilia, and any other "propjob" (as you call it) currently in use by a regional, IS a turbine engine, right? That means it goes in the "Turbine" column of your logbook just like a jet. I'll bet the Bro guys are better pilots anyways.

Guys like you are yet another reason why I won't go to a regional. I don't know what I was thinking even considering it there for awhile.

I don't want to be on the same planet, let alone the same seniority list as an 800 hour wonder who thinks he has some god given right to be in a jet. Get over yourself, fool.

That's not really called for, is it ESF?

I love turboprops. Heck, I'd almost prefer to be a turboprop pilot then a jet pilot. Yeah, I know, that is probably considered wierd.

Of course, I'd be 100% happy to get a job no matter what it is when the time comes. I just love flying. Everything else is just icing on the cake.

Probably not, but as most of the site will attest to, I'm a dick anyways.

Ugh.. I knew there were going to flames all over this one..

Actually what I meant was building turbine time to move up to the majors. Sorry I forgot to specify that. Secondly, I didnt realize that a turbo prop could be logged wholey as "turbine" in a log book. My bad. It certainly clears up a lot.

You just have to realize that some people would prefer one thing over another. To each his own, ya know?

So take a chill pill, Brosef..

SJS strikes again.

Whats sjs?

SJS= Shiny Jet Syndrome. It's akin to thinking with the wrong head when around beautiful women.

Yeah, I know.

I prefer brunettes, hard liquor, and turboprops.

Let me guess- you prefer your hand, Smirnoff, and as we all now know- jets.

I feel that I have been extremely lucky as to my career progression, going from CFI to FO on the CRJ and my first choice regional airline. I love my job, but I feel that I have missed some steps that would have given me a better all around experience. I would have like to have flown night cargo, single pilot, IFR (Ameriflight) for 6-9 months. It's a tough job, but the experience can't be beat. Part of me feels that i'm missing out on a great experience by not going into the EMB-120 first. Everyone I talk to that has flown that plane has great things to say about it, and said it was some of the best flying they have ever done. My last captain is bidding back into the EMB from the CRJ because she likes it so much.
NO FLAME! I wouldn't trade my career path, I am very grateful to be where I am today (at the company, not at home with a broken ankle) I'm not bragging, rubbing it in, boasting, complaining, etc. I'm just saying going straight into the CRJ is going to cause you to miss some good experiences.

Doug: You run a great site, with great members. I wouldn't dare post this at a.net or flightinfo.

Guys,
We're all here to learn from one another, but since it has to go this way.. fine..

ESF, you guessed wrong. It's your mom, beer, and all aircraft.

Now that's how I roll

Well if you didn't realize that turbine is turbine is turbine... then you probably don't have enough of it to go straight to the jet. But, who knows. What are your times?

Obviously I'm low time. 138TT PPL & Inst. The reasoning behind this thread was to see what airlines would look for compared to the schools that I am looking at.

If you look at schools like ERAU CAPT, FSA, RAA etc. that offer the glass training, but are a ton of CA$H and compare them to ATP, Ari-Ben, etc. i'm just trying to compare and see what is needed to climb that ladder.

Each of us has our own goals.

Are you in the air force?
If so, how do they choose your base assignments? Needs of the Air Force, then personal preference.
Airlines are the same way. A little bit of sim training is not going to make you competetive for the jet. If they have one jet slot and one prop slot and it's between someone with some jet sim time and someone without, that may make a difference. There are people getting hired into jets with NO turbine or sim experience. In my opinion, save your money for something else.

Yeah I'm in the Air Force. And actually, you hit the nail on the head with manning and assignment placement/preference. This is mostly the response I was looking for. Thank you all for the helpful info.

She huh? Who do you work for? I recently read that only like 91 out of 1500 or so pilots at Skywest are female. A girl I went to high school with is a pilot for Skywest. What has everyones experience with female pilots been?

Umm. The majority of our Brasilias are EFIS. And if EFIS over FIS is really that big a deal, maybe we should be talking about your skills instead.

Thanks for the info. I'm looking into skywest, but obviously, i want an RJ over a prop..

[/ QUOTE ]

Honest question: Why? As a general rule, turboprops have a shorter upgrade time (since most people want to fly the jet, see ESF's SJS comment), it's still turbine time, and I think it would be cool to say that you flew turboprops before they went away. I think eventually it will be like being a DC-3 or 727 pilot today. If someone gave me a choice between an ATR and a CRJ, I'd probably take the ATR. CRJs are nice, but I like to look at more than just what equipment I fly.

Honestly, it's because I've been an avionics technician for over 5 years now on both, active duty and reserves for the USAF. I know avionics systems very well. I have worked with both traditional and EFIS type avionics setups throughout the Air Force inventory. I prefer the EFIS. (here comes the flames

I'm not one to become complacent on automation, but I like the new technology. Can you blame me?
