How many new students are starting ATP?

Don't hold his word to him. I'm going to tell you right now that I make twice as much as a first year F.O. As a flight instructor. The ONLY reason I am applying to the regionals right now is because I realized I need something in my log book called "turbine" time. Well the summer is a little slow but I still make good money, even if it all goes to Sallie Mae. Better to her now then later when I will have a lot less to give...

Look at it this way.. There is no shortage of fuel, the fuel price hikes are man made. The added costs of fuel are passed onto the passengers. The airplanes are ALL very full. People are having problems jump seating. So as long as there is fuel, and as long as their are passengers who are willing to pay for the fuel, theres no reason to be worried that everyone is going to stop flying, pilots will be needed.

Airlines threatening to lay off pilots has just as much to do with collective bargaining contract debates as it does with higher prices of fuel.

I did say that there are few airlines running classes EVERY month. I know many more airlines are hiring, but most are hiring into a pool with an unknown class date.

prices are not being passed onto the customer like they should be.

Also, the "threat" of furlough has come to a reality by TSA pilots, 45 to be furloughed by July 1.

To add to the list of cut backs you can add that eagle is parkng their saabs and 135's , bringing a bunch of their ATR's back to Dallas from Puerto Rico and cutting their flying back 12%. Us Airways will be announing in the comming days they are reducing flights by 18% between mainline and regional, 8% of the reduction will be on the regional side. The indusrtry is not as healthy as some say it is and people do have other options to flying; bus, train, car, or stay home due to the economy sucking in general. In my eyes the majors are looking at the regionals for cost savings since we do typicaly have the highest set mile in the industry especially the aircraft I fly....the CRJ-200.
