How many hours when you got first CFI job?

I just got my CFI, II and MEI and went out distributing resumes today. I only have 250 total time and I am thinking that might be a little low. One place said their insurance requirements are 350 hours. Do most places have requirements like this or is it possible for me to get a CFI job with my flight time? I know once I get a few hundred dual given hours, it will be much easier to get a job, but Im just trying to get that first instructor job right now. Thanks
 
Right around 250 total... there are places out there, mine was a small local FBO... just keep looking. Good luck on the search.
 
Actually you would be a better investment for a company since you can teach everything and will be working there a while. Definately keep walking in resumes.
 
Where did you do all your training, and rentals to build that time?

Will that place hire you?

That's what I'd try first.

I was around 3hundredsomething.
 
I got my cfi ratings at ATP, and i want to work there. But I need to finish up college first and I dont wanna get hired at ATP and then have to quit to go back to college. When u instruct at ATP you are there full time. In the mean time I would like to get a job building up some hours of dual given. From the responses here, it looks like I have some pretty low time, but I will keep pluggin along.
 
I actually got my first instructing job at just over 200 tt, lol. They even asked how I had my Comm/CFI below 250 tt.............of course, 51 hrs in the sim is the answer. That said, we just found out yesterday (5 months after hiring me) that their insurance required instructors to have 350 tt!! So I lucked out there. Just keep sending out resumes and calling places, you'll find somewhere. Just remember, if you really want a shot at it, you may have to move, I did. Had to leave the beach

(Wilmington, NC) to get the job. I just happened to call this flight school, and ask if they were hiring. Had a resume to em that afternoon, and was basically hired that day!

Wow...were none of the flight schools down east hiring? Kinston? New Bern? Greenville? I still know quite a few CFI's out that way....
 
i was at 285... hired by the place I did a bit of my training... had applied at other FBOs closer to home but the mins there were 300 + due to Insurance mins.... good luck...

They may have been, I never looked that direction. Even working there would've involved a move, and I figured if I was gonna move, it'd be to the Charlotte area where I have quite a few friends and family. Wilmington really only has one flight school, and they pretty much hire guys who trained with them, and no openings anyways. I even thought about towing banners just so I could stay there one more summer, but they wanted something like 50 hrs tailwheel time, which I don't have.

On a sidenote, I'd already been doing most of the things you mentioned in that other post about getting/keeping students, but implemented a few of your suggestions. I'm barely able to find free time lately, so all is going well now!

So, Lloyd...With the time you are building up, when are you moving onwards and upwards to the regionals. Assuming that is what you want to do? Hom much multi do you have? Are you getting any multi training there?
