Well I know they have extensive interviews - or at least I would hope. But wouldn't you think that if someone really wasn't ready to be in a cockpit they wouldn't make it through training? Like I said, there could be a million reasons why they don't use a sim. They may just take a chance that the people they hire will pass the Sim check.\
Would I think that if someone wasn't ready to be in a cockpit they wouldn't make it through training? Yeah, I'd think. Reality is different, though. Can you play MSFS really well, do route memory skills and apply a little bit of knowledge? Congrats. You just made it through ground school. Keep in mind the airlines WANT you to pass, especially by the time you've made it to the checkride. They're out thousands and thousands of dollars if you don't pass. PLUS now they have to start all over again with someone who may or may not make it all the way through.
The sim at PCL is actually kinda....well, easy. If you can fly an ILS and a hold, you're good. Now does that mean that anyone that passes that sim profile is ready to be a CRJ FO? Not hardly. I could do both of those, and I didn't even have an instrument rating or 150TT.
