How long...

Why? Didn't you stick it out at Eagle as a 7 year FO before going to United with 0 TPIC? Sounds like that worked out very well for you.

This isn't about me, but yes that's true.

There are several regionals that I would never advise to stick it out at. Eagle isn't one of them.

All the time. Airlines have history and lest we forget where we came from and why things may be the way that they are. New hires can't be blamed but the old guard at a lot of the crappy places had a hand in making them that way.

That's fair enough, but if that is the standard you are going to apply, I assume you are still salty about

-Republic
-Big Sky
-Skywest
-Eagle
-Freedom A
-GoJets
-Mesa
-ExpressJet
-AWAC
-Shuttle America
-ASA
-Air Midwest

Some to varying degrees but bonus points goes to regionals (like PSA) who took concessionary contracts at a time when others were attempting to negotiate improvements.

Anyone who gives a blanket statement of "stay" or "switch to _____" is full of it. There is no one size fits all answer, it just depends on your personal situation and how much risk you're willing to subject yourself to.

Example. I was a long time regional FO at a place that didn't have much of a future in terms of growth, upgrades, etc. But at the time I was flying under a pretty solid contract (as far as regionals go), I was driving to work, and I really enjoyed who I was working with. I was young, so I was willing to take the chance of sticking around for a few years and seeing where things went. It wasn't until my base closed and I was stuck commuting that I started to get the "I need to get out of here" feeling.

I applied and was hired as a street captain at PSA. In the end I didn't take the job as I didn't get the best feeling from the recruiter. It might have been a better place to hang out than XJT, but through talking to people who did the street captain thing I think I would have been pretty miserable.

Thankfully I got a lucky bounce and was able to move on, but I think I was able to show that both staying or going would have had plusses and minuses. It just depends what is important at the time.

Now it's a "I'll ask my question, or share how I feel, but I'll only hear what I want to hear."

Which is exactly what you've done in the past, especially with subjects that you don't agree with.

I think we need more context with the original question. But life gets better as you get more senior, and you cant get senior if you change jobs. I think just about all the large regionals are pretty much the same with some being better in some areas and some worse. If you are commuting across the country and everything else about the job sucks, and you can get a job at home that's at least on paper better fine. But otherwise I'm in the stick it out camp, everywhere has grumpy pilots and sneaky crew schedulers.

Ah, I remember this.

I'm glad you didn't do it either.

Five years in and I have 2,500 pilots junior to me.

If Lord Cheeto goes out and royally screws the pooch, at least I have a shot at being a copilot again.

o_O

But now they're on par with everyone else as far as pay and in no way hurt other airline's pay or bargaining positions in the long rrun
