How do you get a CFI to leave your front porch?

I used to CFI + drive pizzas. I don't quite miss it, but it helped me get by! It was a local place with free pizza and beer at the end of a shift. I also worked with some interesting people. When I told one guy I was a flight instructor at the local airport, his response was: "Oh I've been to that airport. I've taken some hallucinogenic mushrooms in the scrapwood out there."

I used to CFI and:

- work at a grocery store.
- frame houses.
- bartender

Life is an adventure.

Pay him for the pizza apparently...I just took a part-time job delivering for Pizza Hut two nights per week to make some extra cash :D
I had a captain in Houston who was delivering pizzas at night... he flew exclusively day trips for 7 hours, then would go deliver pizza for 4 or 5 hours, get 6 hours of sleep, wash rinse repeat.

He was doing it to pay off his student loans, which he said he did in 2 years.

If I were based where I lived I would definitely have a 2nd job.

I'm another guy that delivered pizzas while I was a flight instructor. I eventually got a job doing line service at an FBO instead. That was a better part time job and really helped the networking. Didn't pay as well though :-(

Become a cfi.... Best way to develope your book knowledge and become a pilot with crappy stick and rudder skills...... Because you rarely touch the controls. Wanna learn to fly? Go be a bush pilot.
Flying is a lot more than just stick and rudder skills.

Pizza delivery and instructing pair up pretty damn well. I did that for all 4 years of my instructing career. The wear on your car sucks, but the money is usually pretty great, and depending on the store the schedule is pretty flexible.

With tips and miliage I was making about $15 an hour...take home. My boss was great. If I was with a student she would understand and just let me show up when I got there. Also got a hell of a lot of free pizza which goes a long way when you are making instructor wages.

Good times. Miss it a lot, actually.

I can tell what kind you are....I've fired a few
You have no idea what kind of pilot I am. I have always considered my stick and rudder skills to be my strongest attribute. It's something that has always come naturally to me. However, I have learned that to be the pilot I want to be, and to have the career I want to have, it takes a whole lot more than relying on my natural abilities. There are so many intangibles that make a great captain, which is something that I want to be, not just a great pilot. You don't learn how to be a captain by paving your own way. You learn by embracing other techniques and ideas and implementing them along with your strengths. You become a captain by doing things the safe and professional way, not by doing things your way, or the fun way. You become a great captain by the attitude you display at all times.

The fact that you judge what kind of pilot I am by that lone sentence says more about you, than it does about me. I don't need to express how good of a pilot I am, I let my actions speak for itself.

...or actually teach by example and increase your own skill while not passing on your crappy skill to the student! Engage...
