Treat it like a Class C, but you do have the ability to decline their radar service if you wish. It sounds silly to do so but if you know a lot about the TRSA your'e about to fly to and approach constantly sends you way out before setting you up for landing, you might consider it.

Cheers.

When I was flying up at UND, Fargo which was 75 or so NM away from us had a TRSA. You do not have to call approach up however if you want their radar services which is helpful since a lot of "Flying SIoux's" are around that area as well as other jets. Over Hillsborough 10NM away from them was where we would call them, treat it like a Class C you need same VIS requirments, two way radio, mode C transponder, and "Fargo Approach, Sioux 64 with lima is with you over Hillsborough, at 3,500, rquesting stop and go to Fargo" should suffice

Whoa . . . slow down.

Huh?

I'm lost . . .

Was that a sentence or a paragraph?

i just make sure to lead off by keying up without listening to see if anyone else is in the midst of communication, saying "AAANNND" then mumbling something unintelligible.... just like any other ATC facility i call.

It's class C, now, not TRSA. Right? You guys don't mess with me, now. This flying stuff is confusing enough as it is.

No, a TRSA typically surrounds a Class D airport. It's like class C, but optional.

I think it was the ARSAs that became class C...
Yup,

PCAs became Class A
TCAs became Class B
ARSAs became Class C
ATAs became Class D
TRSAs never got a classification.

TRSA is an ARSA where participation isn't mandatory.
