How badly do you want to be an Army Aviator?

Do you want to do it for at least 10 years after you earn wings? Cause that's the new normal.

Way to really hit the mark Big Army. Nailed your retention problem, head on!

What was it before? Half of that?

I guess I would say "welcome to how the rest of us live"? ;)

Seriously though, I love these attempts to address retention. I don't even know where to begin, other than the fact that the mark is normally missed by so much that it isn't even worth providing feedback. I remember I had a senior leader once not too long ago, while I was still on active duty, sit a bunch of us down (all O-4s who were essentially the target retention group) and ask how to fix retention. Response was just crickets. I don't think leadership has processed the fact that when you ask those types of questions, and you get no response at all, your audience is beyond the point of caring enough to argue.....they are just done and counting down the days and hours until it is over. Maybe they will do better with the next generation of folks who are now approaching that point in their careers. And who knows, maybe COVID will solve the problem for them for a couple years.

@///AMG I think the lack of airlines hiring and now all the regionals rescinding the rotor transition training scheme, you’ll see the curve flatten a bit. However, there are systemic issues with non-stop deployments, training cycles (CTC’s / CAX etc).
The op tempo is high, but then padding your FITREP/OER with superfluous activities as a commander puts your troops over the edge.

so Helicopter pilots lives don’t matter anymore at the regionals?

I don’t think so. I have 1 super good buddy, dare I say bestie... make it from 0-hero. He’s awaiting OE. Hasn’t touched the real airplane yet.
5 others (all from my unit) were in the ending stages and got a PFO letter.

It’s because the cost of IERW just went up 60% with the La-cantdotouchdownautos-kota.

the mast moment? So are studs in pilot training not getting touchdown autos now?

I have no idea if that’s the reason behind the limitation, but as often as I heard about that bong going off in normal EMS ops in the 135/45, the Army must have deactivated it for the training environment.

That’s my understanding. But why would they need to practice full-down autos?? It’s a twin.:bounce:

I was in the very last class to do Solo’s in IERW and that was over a decade ago.

Not surprised at all on no touchdown autos. You can’t do them in the advanced airframe you eventually end up in (even in IPC) so it’s not too surprising.

10 years though... yeah that’ll solve all the problems since they simultaneously turned off the reason to stay for 20 with the new retirement program.

the Army is F’ing high.

Yeah, that show is over. Maybe it will be a thing again in 5-10 years, but I wouldn't be counting on it right now as a RW dude. Good for the dudes who used it and are now at least in the game. That being said, they still have some RTP guys who they paid out for who haven't classed up. I'd imagine those guys will get to the show at some point soon (or less soon but still get there).

Which companies stopped their rotor transition programs? The only one I heard of completely stopping was TSA for obvious reasons.

Skywest was one significant one, at least as I'm told (I'm not an RTP so I don't know firsthand). As I eluded to, I don't know if that means 100% stop, or if they will continue the folks already in various points of training. I'd guess they will, since the money is already spent....
