Really? Please explain. OO's upgrade just hit 10 months. IF your TA passes captains get nothing? I hope you guys get paid, but your anger is misguided. You must be hanging out with those senior captains too much.

I'm not so sure that's a good thing...

I think most of them in the 10 month range came from other airlines. I mean, you'd have to average 100 hours of block a month... plus with training and IOE waits, it's pretty much impossible to be upgrade ready legally within 10 months. But yeah, it's sort of similar to touting the 6 month upgrade at DL.... on an airplane nobody wants to fly in a base nobody really wants. But even then it seems like moving to other bases is happening (relatively) quickly. It's hilarious how just two years ago OO and QX were at 7+year upgrades, and now people are bitching that their 10 month upgrade isn't in the exact base they want.

It's amazing how quickly things have changed, and how quickly many have forgotten!

I'm not sure who is rubbing it in your face from SkyWest but they are in serious need of a reality check if they really think that way. I always hear about SkyWest pilots taunting other places and it peeves me off, if I hear it first hand I will tell them they are no better, four stripes or three stripes I could care less. That mentality is what starts beef between companies, which is elementary recess mind set in my opinion.

Yes, you are correct NW base upgrades are no where near a 10 month upgrade or even near a 2 year upgrade at OO for that matter. For now anyways... We are losing a TON of pilots every month so it could be very dynamic, however most captains I've flown with since being at SW are lifers on the ERJ side...

My favorite thing to drag out of a Skywest captain: justification for not trying to move on.

All of them did, no way josé they can do 100 hours in 8 months on the actual line.

It's a 9+ year upgrade at ExpressJet. Crazy.

Never heard this.

We're all in this together. Just how stupid do you have to be to hold anything against another pilot group? We are all equally-qualified, we all do basically the same job, and we're all playing more or less the same game.

This is why people have animosity. One non-union airline buys another, and then the non-union company ends up with 10 month upgrades while the other place stagnates into oblivion.

I'm not saying that being angry at everyone is right, but it's similarly inaccurate to absolve everyone of guilt.

So let me see if I have this right...

A Horizon pilot can hate a SkyWest Airlines pilot because SkyWest, Inc bought a company that was on the way out and kept it afloat?

That doesn't make any sense. And the reference to unions makes even less sense. And the fact that people think that the pilot group is "guilty" in -any- part of the business side of things is... well, just flat-out insane.

But thanks for at least giving me an idea of the warped thought processes that lead to this sort of nonsense.

Nah.

But keep on keeping on.

Looks like I'll be starting ground school May 26th for the mighty Q400! I have about 12 days to learn these flows and memory items, so much more involved than the jungle jet.. lol

Well, something like that.. I won't get into details over it on the forums but I did leave quite unexpectedly.

One thing I'll tell ya about these flows I wish I did better, have them down before ground school even starts and you will have such a easy time. Because of work I wasn't able to dedicate much time to them before ground school so it was a busy time studying those after a long day of ground shool. Congrats man and have some fun!!!! You'll have a blast here and I think it's a good time to join in too!!!

Thanks for the advice, I'm feeling good about the flows after studying all day today. A good friend let me borrow his materials (poster size print outs, flash cards and blown up copies of the flows) so that is helping immensely.

You're gonna be so set then!!! Enjoy the new VPT's or whatever they're called I hear they're pretty freaking sweet especially with learning flows, you'll have a fun time!!! See ya on the line!

Passed my oral yesterday. Starting sim on Tuesday. Any advice for the sim? Other than rudder which will be obvious I'm sure lol

O.K., a few quick tips...

(1) Know your profiles (normal flows, stall recovery procedure, V1 cut, approach call outs, etc.). There's some excellent videos on your iPad (under the "Reference" tab). The stall recovery is the old procedure, but the rest are up-to-date.

(2) It's easy to overtrim the elevator in the sim, especially with limited visual references. Use about half as much elevator trim as you think you'll need.

(3) Know the power settings for the Q400. See page 100 of the Flight Training Guide (under the "Training" tab). Looks of goodies in this manual. The questions in the Flight Training Guide are excellent preparation for orals.

(4) ALWAYS know what flight guidance modes you are using. They beat this into you in the FMS lab, but it's easy to dope off and screw it up in the sim (or the airplane). As I'm fond of saying, you're not a real Q400 pilot until you've flown 200 miles in heading mode (when you meant to use LNAV).

(5) If you have a bad sim, learn from it and move on. I totally butchered one sim as a new hire. It turned out to be a great learning experience.

Good luck, have fun.
